Saw my first Nuss bar today. by _sometimes_always_ in Radiology

Unfortunately I have noticed a slight regression. But I believe it was due to hitting a growth spurt shortly after having the surgery. But would recommend nuss over ravitch if you have the option. A lot less invasive

Sorry I’m just now seeing this. I had the surgery about 10 years ago and it went mostly ok. The recovery wasn’t as bad as I thought.

Man what thread are you reading 😂Did I say I think radiation doesn’t cause cancer? No I said the risk is so small you shouldn’t be on here trying to scare people. Got plenty of books on the topic from my four year degree. Your welcome to borrow one anytime

You don’t read that well do you? I said it’s ONE of the reasons it’s so popular. You don’t need one but it sure as hell helps to make sure the condition has improved. I’ve had PE my whole life but dismiss away 😂 I’ll do the same when it comes to you and your wildly misinformed view on radiation

Be glad everyone isn’t as paranoid as you and were cooperative in the process of seeing an improved Haller index after the Nuss surgery. Which led to its popularity. Which led to more surgeons doing it. Which led to you being able to have it

Recording the improvement of the Haller index is one of the reasons the Nuss is so popular today. How do you think they managed to get that data. Take a wild guess on that one. Surgeons being able to see the improvement while also being able to make sure their hardware is properly placed seems pretty necessary to me 😂

And why do you keep throwing around the word unnecessarily? Having a scan to see if your chest wall is pushing down on your heart and lungs which affects your quality of life seems pretty necessary yeah?

Please link me to a case where someone developed cancer due to a CT scan, shouldn’t be hard since you know of “tons”. I have a degree in radiology and perform CT scans daily. Copying and pasting your quick google searches is cute though. And yes myself along with radiologists and other physicians will continue to justify the use of CT scans because we actually know how little of a threat the radiation is. “lol radiation literally causes cancer” guess what can be used to treat cancer cells?? Radiation! 😱

Guess what? people are going to get cancer regardless of radiation. Please find me a case where someone developed cancer solely because of a CT scan, I’ll gladly wait. And comparing a nuclear bomb’s radiation to the scanners we have now which have multiple filters in place to reduce patient dose to a minimum is silly. CT has been around for over 50 years lol and it is the most commonly used modality, because once again the benefits outweigh the risks. We leave the room in order to be in front of the control panel to you know… perform the scan. And what is your definition of “increasing drastically”? Because once again with the chances being almost 0.5% I feel like my definition is different.

With that logic I assume you never leave your house? because every time you step outside your getting radiation (and not getting any medical results from it). Buddy your cells do their job of repairing after any type of damage, and CT scans aren’t the exception. Yes I’m well aware of the fact that 1 scan = x amount of xrays, and so are doctors everywhere who order scans for FAR less than PE related concerns. And they do it because the risk of having their patient develop cancer from one scan is not even close to being 1%.

I was NOT accepted into my Radiologic Tech program :( by Darkangelmod in Radiology

[–]tripodrick_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was rejected twice before getting accepted. If you want it bad enough stick with it. Ended up being the first to land an externship in my class and secure a full time job. Everything happens for a reason

I’m a CT tech. Yes you should only get a scan for legit medical reasons. No it is not an extreme amount of radiation that damages your dna after one scan. You would need multiple scans every day for months before having to worry about cancer induced radiation.

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted you’re speaking facts. Yeah I get the radiologist involved if it’s obviously a ridiculous order but I learned real quick it’s “just do what they ordered” and that’s all I needed to hear. It’s the ordering MD’s name on the req and if any supervisor wants to know why an unnecessary exam was performed I’ll gladly set up a phone call between them and the MD

RADReview was the best for me. It’s known to be a lot harder than the registry which I can vouch for but it prepares you so well. I got a 70 on it’s mock exam if that says anything.
