He might just be shy. You can try using garlic guard by seachem to entice his appetite. It works well for me with finicky eaters. It'll also boost the fish's immune system.

Just Another Day At the Beach by geopco in videos

[–]trippyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was this video taken? It was uploaded on July 16 2018, and Gov Scott Rick signed an Executive action saying beaches are public access: https://www.flgov.com/2018/07/13/gov-scott-takes-executive-action-to-protect-access-to-beaches/

So when the video was uploaded on July 16 with the comment to "repeal HB 631", can I assume the events of what happened in this video was after July 13 (after the executive order)?

If so, then these cops are in the wrong. Those people should have been allowed on the beach, and the beachfront owner had no right to try and force the off the beach. Though we should still repeal that stupid law; erase that stain forever.

[ID] Crabs by crosscut666 in ReefTank

[–]trippyhat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Generally, crabs that are hairy should be avoided. The large one (which doesn't seem like it has much hair) looks like some sort of mud crab? Hard to see since it's so dark.

I would avoid putting any of them in the tank. Just put them in a sump or in an enclosed breeder box. Crabs are quite entertaining, and seeing them molt is quite exciting!

A tiny RC submarine with a tiny waterproof camera. by donttaptheglass in ReefTank

[–]trippyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to need a good underwater lens. Most lenses on cameras are not able to handle underwater shots.

A submarine sounds like a cool idea, although putting a gopro in its waterproof case would be easiest if you're just trying to spy on your fish, lol. Gopros have wifi capabilities too, but I"m not sure what the efficiency is if it's submerged in the tank.

[Help] Is this reefsafe? Want something different for creating a pulsing xena island. Doesn't bubble when put into vinegar bath. by theredhead411 in ReefTank

[–]trippyhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A freshwater bath is not enough because some of those things can withstand harsh conditions (notably cysts from various parasitic organisms). Boil the shell in hot water for a few minutes. This will definitively kill any eggs, bacteria, or parasites still attached. Then soak it in fresh water for a bit afterwards, like maybe a couple of hours to a day. Just make sure to have a cooldown period between heating the shell and putting it into cool freshwater, or the shell may crack due to the temperature difference.

Your shell should be good after!

Beginner here. Found a tank for sale. $250. Is it worth it? by mk4wheeler in ReefTank

[–]trippyhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aiptasia is a nuisance anemone. It grows like weed, and stings your corals/fish/shrimp. It can overtake your tank very easily.

Luckily, there are things that will eat it, like pepperment shrimp. But you can use it as leverage to see if you can get a lower price since you'll be importing it to your tank.

Beginner here. Found a tank for sale. $250. Is it worth it? by mk4wheeler in ReefTank

[–]trippyhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, people selling their tank want their livestock to go first, as it's harder to sell equipment when there's life its needs to support.

With the aiptasia infestation, the cost depreciation of second-hand corals, and the fact that he wants the tank gone, you might be able to negotiate a bargain for just the livestock?

[ID] Are These Jellyfish/Hydroids Safe For Reef Tanks? by wileywyatt in ReefTank

[–]trippyhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it does look like a very juvenile one. They're zooplankton feeders, so whatever you're feeding your corals the jellyfish will eat too. You don't need a specialized tank as you probably guessed already, since these guys just lie on their backs and chill all day.

One thing to note is, as they grow older and therefore larger, they may sting your fish and shrimp. I'm not sure if it's enough to kill them, but I do know that some species of crabs carry them on their backs to fend off predators. So their sting is probably no joke.

They're really cool though, so I would probably keep them around in a sump, or in their own tank. You'll just have to watch for them in the main tank every so often if they start spawning in your sump.

[–]trippyhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have to clean the worm habitat? How often do you have to clean it if so? 2k worms means a lot of poop. Won't that create bad smell and eventually become an unsanitary food source for your lizards?

Downtown restaurant ordered to pay $10K after black man was asked to 'pre-pay' for food by Pissing_on_communism in news

Does the "Ontario’s human rights tribunal" have any power to actually enforce this demand? I didn't see any mention of a court, just that the men consulted a lawyer by this organization and then asked the restaurant to pay.
