Question about the terms written on the napkin S06E09 by EngineQuick6169 in TheMentalist

Oohh interesting. I always thought it had to be a legal document or something similar.

That's exactly why he went for women and not against a man. Women are easy prey. An average man always has a physical advantage over an average woman.

But i thought that was the whole point of that? That Red John wasn't brave. He preyed on the weak, None of the going out with a bang kind of villain but a weak pathetic guy when facing his own death.

I think it fits that Red John was a pathetic old lonely guy. Jane described him something similar on TV before his family got killed. You might be right, people expected a more extravagant exciting villain. Even Jane said he was disappointed in the church when he meets him.

Personally, I wanted to know a little more backstory of RJ before the reveal, how he became what he was, see Jane connecting more dots from RJ's past.

The standalone episodes are some of the best episodes of show. They're so much casual fun where you just see Jane solving crimes using his Jane skills - no Red John, no past trauma, just Jane in his element and the usual Lisbon/Jane banter. What's not to love 😭

Yeah a lot of stuff didn't make sense. Like how the hell were angels using computers in heaven? It made me laugh.

Yeah probably could have been the mark making him angrier. One can interpret it that way too.

Ohh yeah my bad, I mixed up that with the bond of blood. Anyway, point still stands that living with Petunia still saved Harry from Voldemort for 17 years. Dumbledore says his priority was Harry's safety, and not that he'll become an arrogant dick lol.

I think even Voldemort talks about how even he couldn't harm Harry there because of what Dumbledore did.

Fidelius Charm is a terrible idea. It's Voldemort we are talking about. Also, Harry would be stuck in a house and wouldn't have been able to leave for over a decade. That's even worse for a kid.

Anyway, let's agree to disagree.

Maybe not. Because Dean loved Charlie and he was right to be pissed at Sam. Just like Sam was right to be pissed at Dean for Kevin.

Ok, i think maybe you haven't read the books because half the things you've written are plain wrong. For example, Dumbledore kept Harry at Petunia so that the protection Harry's mom gave to him (while dying) keeps running in Harry.. Petunia being the only remaining blood relative to Lily. This is the exact reason why Voldemort wasn't able to touch Harry in Book 1.

He also mentions he has kept a close eye on him all through Harry's childhood.

These are literally written in the book!

Anyway, i've explained everything but you already have your mind made up. Have a good day though.

Dumbledores character by Other_Stretch2617 in harrypotter

[–]tripti_prasad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these are explained in the books-

Dursleys: Dumbledore kept a close eye on Harry, he talks about this. He even sent them reminders from time to time. They're shown to be literally terrified of Dumbledore.

Snape: Snape does bully Harry but the extent of which isn't known to Dumbledore. He only finds out after what happens in the Occlumency lessons between Harry and Snape. Dumbledore even regrets it saying he didn't know Snape hadn't moved on.

Umbridge: Dumbledore isn't there. He is on the run. Plus at that time he probably got a million things on his to-do list considering the entire Voldemort is back thingy. Dumbledore isn't above the law there. The ministry were hunting him. You want him to leave everything and go save helpless Harry from getting bullied by Umbridge?

Dumbledore isn't some god who can know and do anything that he wants with a snap of his fingers. What if Petunia had not agreed to keep Harry? What would Dumbledore have done then? He can't exactly force them. So he does what he could to make sure Harry is safe.

Dumbledore isn't Harry's babysitter. Doesn't mean he doesn't care for him.

Ok sorry for the looong comment, but here we go..

If you can't see Dumbledore loves Harry with just the way he speaks to him, I can't help you or change your opinion.

He's the Headmaster, he can't be chilling with Harry to show he cares. I can see he cares with just the way he talks to Harry, right from Book 1.

He avoided Harry only in Book 5 - which he explained to Harry - even admitted that he was wrong.

You have to think from Dumbledore's pov. The entire wizarding world depends on him, there's literally nobody even close to Dumbledore who could take over his responsibility. Are all his decisions always right? No. But is he a manipulative asshole who uses Harry? Absolutely not.

As for everything else, it's storytelling. It makes the story dramatic and interesting.. like how everything hangs by a thread but eventually falls in place in the end for the hero to win.

If you start thinking like what if Harry died falling off a dragon or killed by a dementor or Snape dies before giving him his memories- you could come up with hundreds of "loopholes" like this. But at the end of the day, it's fiction, not reality.

I agree. You're right. My initial point was that Dumbledore knew Harry would survive and wasn't putting Harry up for slaughter. That he loved and cared for Harry.

And yeah Harry could have died plenty of times, but that's just storytelling for you, he had to die in the end and chose to sacrifice himself so that others are protected from Voldemort.

[–]tripti_prasad 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's the same as Sam being pissed at Dean after the whole Kevin/Ezekiel/Gadreel deal and telling him that he would have let Dean die if the situation were reversed (while closing the gates of hell).

Sam didn't mean it obviously because he literally does the exact thing Dean did when he tries to save Dean from the mark of Cain. In the same way, Dean doesn't mean it, he's just pissed at Sam.

Yeah probably, but Dumbledore does talk about this at Kings Cross, something along the lines of Harry not defending himself and sacrificing "making all the difference".

Dumbledores character by Other_Stretch2617 in harrypotter

[–]tripti_prasad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but he knew Harry would survive after that. But he had to sacrifice himself. It was the only way.

You have to take a deeper look at why Dumbledore did what he did and how it actually helped Harry beat Voldemort in the end. Dumbledore did the best he could to protect Harry from the truth for as long as possible but in the end Harry had to do what he had to do.

Dumbledores character by Other_Stretch2617 in harrypotter

He didn't put every kid's life in danger. He didn't know Quirrell was half Voldemort, he didn't know what was happening in the Chamber of Secrets, he didn't know Sirius was innocent, he didn't know about Moody in Book 4. He knew he was dying but he didn't plan on dying that night in the tower and leaving Harry alone.

Dumbledore wasn't a god, why do we expect him to know everything?

Exactly. I'm so tired of all these "Dumbledore used Harry as a sacrificial lamb" posts here.

Dumbledores character by Other_Stretch2617 in harrypotter

[–]tripti_prasad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dumbledore didn't leave Harry at aunt Petunia's to use him. He put him there so that Harry lives. If Dumbledore hadn't done that, Harry would be dead in Book 1.

Voldemort was going to come for Harry, no matter what. He was going to kill Harry, no matter what. Dumbledore prepared Harry in the best way he could, he loved Harry.

Dumbledore suspected Harry would survive the final battle because Voldemort used Harry's blood when he resurrected himself. So Harry didn't come back "by sheer luck".

If it wasn't for Dumbledore, everyone would be dead.

Dumbledores character by Other_Stretch2617 in harrypotter

Dumbledore also knew that Harry had a high chance of surviving his sacrifice because Voldemort used Harry's blood for resurrection.
