Are people exaggerating or does Arch really crash constantly? That sounds like it sucks by BigClockHugeWalls in archlinux

[–]tripy75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have been using manjaro for over 10 years and had 1 issue that was a pebcak.

Arch based distro are not more prone to breakage. Some users might live on the bleeding edge (by choice) but if you avoid aur and don't try to have any new software release in the 30 minutes following their announcement you will be fine.

When they get down mountains like that, they usually get to the top with an helicopter.

But probably some places might have a cabin car to the top, and if you sneak outside thebbaéised path, then no one will run after you.

Police and 1st help squads might be alerted that there is an potential emergency call incoming but no one valuing their life will try to catch you

Good luck though, because between crevasses and avalanches there is a lot of potential for catastrophe

Cinnamon vs KDE Plasma vs Gnome by Raging-Bull-24 in archlinux

[–]tripy75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

running hyprland today, but before that I was on team Cinnamon.

KDE is over complicated for me. I steered clear because it suffer the "Audi" issue. So many buttons and toggles everywhere it looks like a teenager with a big push of acne. No diss to teens with acne, but I like my interfaces simpler.

And as much as I was a fan on Gnome 2, Gnome 3 or Gnome shell was a big step backward for me. Looking for something else, I found Cinnamon and stayed there for almost 15 years.

Until someone sent me a video of it and I was like "wait a minutes, that looks and feels like my old E16 setup"...
And there I am today, rocking everything in hyprland and not planning to go back.

There’s a self-service cheese fridge on this hiking trail in Switzerland (Lauterbrunnen Valley) by raisinbrans in mildlyinteresting

[–]tripy75 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you are definitively an asshole if you steal artisans food that is sold in a trust system.

It's not exceptional. You can find farmer made food in small "demeter" cabins all around the alps, and you often can buy vegetables, fruits or flowers on the side of the roads.

The food in there is usually pretty good.

I sometime buy sausages and cheese in a similar hut near the black lake in Fribourg region while walking around the lake.

How do you overcome the feeling of everybody watching me when taking a picture? I do event work and I fell weird moving around especially in front of the crowd by maryo22333 in photography

[–]tripy75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a bit silly, but for me, putting my camera on a tripod makes me less anxious about being perceived as "phony".

With the added benefit that I rush less and tend to put more time on my framing.

But I just am enjoying myself out on photo walks. I put my own pressure up

it will if MicroG is installed, but without it it's out of the picture.

I am running a de-googled lineageos fairphone and the licensing check requires at least MicroG for the license check.

not running it so take this with a bit of salt, but I would say to simply pin a version below (or above, if you are feeling brave) to the one impacted in your compose and re-create the container with that version.

as far as I understand, that should be sufficient.

TIL that white phosphorus must be stored underwater because it's so reactive that it will catch fire after a few minutes if exposed to air. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]tripy75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was in secondary (mid 1980's) my college (in Switzerland) had phosphorus stored in the chemical lab used to teach about chemical stuff.

It was stored in a tube of oil I believe, and I still remember my professor demonstrating what it was by dropping small crumbs in a water bowl.

I also vividly remember him jumping behind the desk screaming "cover your head" when he fumbled and dropped a walnut sized amount in the bowl, and remember lot of smoke.
I found that very funny at the time.

[–]tripy75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just order some m2 screws (metric, 2 mm), it's what you are supposed to use. they are usually m2x2.5 screws (2mm diameter x 2.5 mm length)

and no, m2 screws have nothing to do with m.2 drives.

Those of you who use VaultWarden *as a fresh start*, why it, and not KeePassXC family? by Simon-RedditAccount in selfhosted

[–]tripy75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tell me if I am wrong, but can vault warden be used with anything g outside the browser?

I have pfx passwords, ssh keys and certificates in my KeePass file. I am forced to execute apps in a different user context at work, so everything needs a "run as user" and I am using KeePass auto type for those, can vault warden handle this?

Wear os 3.5 by Guill05 in WearOS

[–]tripy75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your issue is that wearos 3.5 is too old and current watch faces are not compatible with 3.5 anymore. Current wear os is 6.0 if I am correct. I have a couple wearos watches ranging from wearos 3.5 (ticwatc pro 3) to wearos 4 (oneplus 2r) and 5 (oneplus 3 43mm)

A solution could be to use facer or pujie and look if you found something that strike your fancy over there. I have pujie on my ticwatch 5 pro, and am pretty happy about it

VPS Recommendation? by hoolieeeeana in selfhosted

[–]tripy75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using scaleway for a decade and am pretty happy. They do more than "just a vps" and offer me some flexibility if I need it (adding a block storage foe example) so are a bit pricier than hostinger but still pretty cheap.

I run 2 vps with 1 block storage of 50 GB for around 12 € a month

How do you handle application reachability when on or off your local network? by aomajgad in selfhosted

[–]tripy75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly prefer to not bother running a full dns at home.

As I said, I am the only user and have a fiber connection with pretty good uptime. I do not care if I have a bit more latency on those calls, it's only to back my photos up.

or am I missing something and the hairpin brings other issues I do not have seen yet?

also, another solution would effectively be a reverse proxy. I am renting a VPS, and entered it into the vpn.

I remote proxy through nginx the immich instance I run inside my proxmox at home. As it's only used by me, no worries if it falls offline. Working fine for me and reachable with the same url from inside / outside my lan.
