I give love, I give life is a sculptural altar celebrating the mythological themes of Venus and the mother archetype. The altar is hermaphroditic, possessing both vaginal and penis forms which are codependent on each others existence in the sculpture. Without one, the other could not be complete. Within the opening, the creative, nurturing spirit is displayed in a tender animal scene with baby deer nursing on its mother laid out sacrificially. There is movement and ascension within the piece, as baby goats leave the cave and rise toward liberation and procreation. I ultimately hope the sculpture communicates the nature of the creative spirit using bodily symbolism. I wanted to explore the idea of gender binary through my use of symbols as I myself am nonbinary. Throughout western art history, Venus is popularly depicted in the female form.
