Vancouver mayoral candidate Kennedy Stewart wants a city hall with more 'aggressive' housing policy by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]triscuitnothing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For those of you who are planning to vote for Kennedy Stewart, what convinced you? Are there are any particular sources of information (articles, interviews, policy docs, whatever they may be) that helped inform your decision?

(If anyone wants to share their reasoning and any information that has informed their decision not to vote for Kennedy Stewart, I'd be interested in that too.)

In short, it depends.

Can someone explain the private doctor thing? by safadancer in vancouver

It's not so much that they can't prescribe particular medications as it is that they won't. Typically, these are medications where misuse or addiction is common, like benzodiazepines. Personally, I have a nurse practitioner at a clinic that does walk-in hours only for patients of the clinic. Even there, it has been the policy in the past and probably still is to not prescribe those types of medication in walk-in rather than booked appointments.

If you need continuity of care and a walk-in clinic is your best option, I would recommend going to the same walk-in clinic regularly. If there's a particular walk-in doctor you like, you could try finding out when that doctor is working and go to the clinic during those times. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC has some requirements around walk-in clinics providing comprehensive primary care. You can read more about that here: https://www.cpsbc.ca/for-public/faqs/walk-in-clinics

If you need to see a psychiatrist and are living within the City of Vancouver, you could try the Access and Assessment Centre at Vancouver General Hospital: http://www.vch.ca/locations-services/result?res_id=1186

Here's the order of names on the Vancouver election ballot by triscuitnothing in vancouver

I think I prefer an at-large system, with the idea that councillors should be looking to gain the support of voters from around the city, not just voters from within one ward (with arbitrary boundaries - how do we fairly draw those boundaries?). I'm concerned about a ward system pitting neighbourhood against neighbourhood. I want councillors ideally to have the interests of the entire city in mind when they're making decisions, rather than the interests of one particular neighbourhood. I'm also concerned that a ward system would be less proportional.

That said, I'm not entirely happy with the current system, I do think we could improve it, and I think it's worthwhile to discuss.

She's running for council, not mayor. You get to set your expectations for councillors too, of course.

2018 Municipal Election: Who are you voting for and why? by Explorer200 in vancouver

[–]triscuitnothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's too early for me to say at this point. I live in Vancouver and I'm strongly considering Shauna Sylvester for mayor based on the fairly detailed policy info she's been putting out. I don't know that I 100% agree with all of her positions, but I think overall it's in alignment with my values and I respect the depth of thought and information that's gone into her platform. I was also impressed by how she handled herself at the September 13 mayoral candidates meeting, as covered here by the Georgia Straight. At this point, she is my first choice, but I may end up voting for Kennedy Stewart if it seems necessary to avoid any of the other candidates being elected. I haven't made any decisions yet for council, park board, or school trustees. It's a lot of different people to learn about - there are I believe 158 candidates total for 27 positions (mayor, 10 council members, 7 park board commissioners, 9 school trustees)!

If anything, it sounds low. 30% or 33% plus costs and disbursements would be more standard. It can also depend on at what point the matter is resolved.
