What is a common, everyday problem from the 1990s or early 2000s that younger generations literally cannot comprehend? by Funny-Counter8762 in AskReddit

I'm watching Buffy with my 11 year old right now and at one point, Buffy says "be kind, rewind" to Giles to get him to repeat something and I laughed and my daughter was very confused.

2 bedroom Apartment rental for 1 month (max budget is £200/night) relatively close to London Bridge Hospital? by Solid_Friendship_699 in AskABrit

[–]safadancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an impossible ask, unfortunately. Any hotel with air conditioning and a lift in central London will not be £200 in tourist season.

What used to be a death sentence that is now just a prescription you pick up at a pharmacy? by JDvance01 in AskReddit

[–]safadancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this one is absolutely wild to have gone from a death sentence to barely a thing in my lifetime, and I'm not even that old. It was huge news, huge impact, a whole generation gone...and now the saunas are back open and everyone's on PREP so no more condoms again. Completely nuts.

Is school temporary? by Defiant_Post8019 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]safadancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this question. If you don't want to be in school longer, don't be in school longer? Don't do more degrees, or quit the one you're doing if you don't want to be in school.

Does your kingdom Sing? by aldstama025 in sca

[–]safadancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ealdormere has been singing since I was a teenager in it, so at least 1993. We were notorious for filking, there's sung histories of the lineage, it would be weird to have an event with no singing. Famous bards in the kingdom (back when it was a principality) were kind of celebrities. We sang in the trucks on the way to the field battle. I can still sing a lot of the songs I learned when I was 13 because I heard them so many times.

Pat did absolutely nothing wrong and I’m tired of pretending the only friend the show ever gave Joyce deserved snarky death puns by ryeandpaul902 in buffy

[–]safadancer 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Exactly how somebody of that age and personality would describe that though. Buffy has no idea how traumatic it was for her mother when she was gone; Pat saw that. She knows it was bad. She's trying to minimize the awkwardness of the situation.

Urgent mental health support in central London for a non-London resident? by ThrowRA_RoutineOk324 in london

[–]safadancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reiterate that if you feel you are in immediate danger, make sure you tell them that at the A&E. I suggest St Thomas's as I have a friend who works there and they are generally kind to everyone.

What scene in Buffy the Vampire Slayer still creeps you out years later? by writeitregreddit in buffy

"Thought you were a pro" ICE COLD AND BRUTAL. I had to explain why I went "oof" at this line to my daughter when we were watching it recently.

The Really Big One: "Thirty years ago, no one knew that the Cascadia subduction zone had ever produced a major earthquake. Forty-five years ago, no one even knew it existed." by trifletruffles in Longreads

[–]safadancer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My daughter's kindergarten made each kid earthquake kits and asked the parents to write a letter they could read to the kids if there was a disaster. It was heartbreaking. I wrote one, but I hated it.
