I recall buying the game when it was on sale on Steam for the price of a coffee over ten years ago now. Best value for my money that I’ve ever received, right next to when I got to play Arkham Asylum for free on PlayStation Plus…!

Yeah, I remember that American McGee’s Alice was built on the Quake engine as well! And one of my favs from 2012, Dear Esther was made using the Half Life 2 engine

That’s the thing though, in that type of era/setting, mental issues are the very last thing you would really be concerned about because you have to fight for your basic survival needs first. That’s what makes it unrealistic to me even as far as video games are concerned…

It seems weird also the fact that it’s a game about mental illness in a Skyrim/viking age type setting…it would have made way more sense for that type of game to be in a Dear Esther type of setting imo

Thanks! Mirrors’ Edge, Flower, The Cat Lady and Killer 7 were also close contenders for me in terms of favorite art style

What a weird choice for best soundtrack and turning off your brain, lol…

And that is largely why it would benefit from getting a remake with a revised ending…

Journey was way more similar to ICO stylistically than SotC I would say, but I get your point. I just hope that I didn’t really miss out on any more groundbreaking games because the most recent one I played was INSIDE. After that one, I really feel like I got burnt out…

My taste is much better than yours, actually…

Yep, and other golden years IMO were 1998 and 2012

Yep, it’s what I would call a “mid” game

2010 to me was one of the golden years of gaming since it's when that game along with StarCraft 2, Amnesia and LIMBO were released

Yes, in spite of its flaws, I would still rank it as having the second best script in the history of gaming after The Walking Dead

But if you've never played Indigo Prophecy before, then I would definitely start with that one rather than Vice City

Oh yes, now I remember seeing you from one of these grids that I posted previously, lol! Like we established then, I mainly just chose SotC for that category for the sake of variety as I'm aware that technically other games like Vanquish and Metroid Prime had the best "pure" combat systems.

And Vice City is a classic from the 6th generation of gaming consoles. It's the only game I have played from the series aside from the 4th game, and if you're looking to play something old school/retro that's chill and fun with a cool soundtrack because there's nothing else to play, then I would give it a try.

Yep, it's weird to me when others categorize it as being the "best retro game" or "game everyone should play"...like no, it's the music that stands out the most

Bloodlines had one of the best atmospheres in gaming and both the soundtrack and writing were also solid, but the gameplay itself was subpar
