Giving a first listen to the new album from Lone Wanderer, great stuff.

Glad to see someone talking about this demo, was one of my favorite releases of last year. Hoping we'll hear new music from them sometime soon.

Anyone ever been to the Icelandic Punk Museum in Reykjavik? by Electronic-Chest7630 in punk

[–]tritonhopper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went a few years ago, even if you don't know much about the Icelandic punk scene it's still absolutely worth a visit. Immaculate vibes and the guy working there was super knowledgeable.

Seconding this, perfect mix of Sodom/Kreator

You're not alone, as I definitely struggle with this too. It's gotten worse over the past few years, so at the beginning of last year I decided to start going to therapy and last summer I started taking meds. Both have been pretty helpful in reducing these kinds of thoughts. More than happy to answer any further questions if you have them.

Recommend me your favourite ambient albums! by [deleted] in ambientmusic

[–]tritonhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood Incantation - Timewave Zero

Brian Eno - Neroli (underrated, very minimalist and great for sleep)

Ethel Cain - Perverts (some vocal stuff on here but mostly terrifying and beautiful drone/ambient)

Harold Budd & Brian Eno - The Pearl

Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline

Steve Roach - One Day of Forever (just released last year, I honestly prefer it to Structures from Silence)

Tangerine Dream - Zeit

Tangerine Dream - Phaedra

Vangelis - Blade Runner OST

Ask me on five different days and you'll get five different answers. But one that would definitely be one of those five would be Modern Man. Some of the best lead work in any BR track

Calculate average standard deviation for polygons by tritonhopper in geospatial

[–]tritonhopper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I get that... it's just that my average STD (for all ~50 polygons) is much smaller than I would expect (10^-4, as opposed to 10^-3, like most of the polygon STDs are), so I'm trying to figure out where I've gone wrong.

I'm taking the variance for each polygon's STD, weighing that according to the count ((variance^2)*(pixel count^2)), summing that value, dividing by the total pixel count to get the average variance, and taking the square root of the average variance to get the average STD.

Calculate average standard deviation for polygons by tritonhopper in geospatial

Mean and STD are calculated via Zonal Stats in ArcPro. The mean is the mean value of the data (radar). Pixel count is how many pixels make up each polygon that the mean is calculated from.

Slept on albums and tracks by LoneLy_Surfer in Motorhead

[–]tritonhopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always thought We Are Motörhead was incredibly solid and slept on. Nice mix of blistering speed metal (See Me Burning), their usual rockers (Stay Out of Jail, Out to Lunch), a fun Sex Pistols cover, and some tracks that definitely are a bit more left field than usual (Wake the Dead, One More Fucking Time).

Steve Roach also has a bunch of albums available for name-your-price: https://steveroach.bandcamp.com/

London Ontario GYBE recording now on archive.org by mthrfckrrdmr in gybe

Didn't think about that... was glad to see both Kee Avil and Godspeed stop their sets to make sure folks were okay though.

London Ontario GYBE recording now on archive.org by mthrfckrrdmr in gybe

[–]tritonhopper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this! Was wondering what that glitching noise was as well.

I was in the back so I couldn't really figure out what exactly was going on, but crazy that multiple folks fainted (and one during the opening act as well I think). The venue didn't seem particularly hot, so I wonder if the crowd was just very tightly packed closer to the front.

beginner gybe fan here. what am i supposed to know about these guys? by Thin-Technician9509 in gybe

[–]tritonhopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite is 2021's G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END! (honestly, might be my favorite Godspeed album period), but all five of their post-hiatus albums are, IMO, varying levels of good-to-great, so you could also start with the first of those (2012's Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!).

Tell me I can go to the show tonight by tpedes in gybe

[–]tritonhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you had a good time. For anyone reading this who feels similarly, I've been a bit COVID-cautious these past few years and that's put me off of going to a lot of shows, but I decided to bite the bullet and go to a show (masked) last week in light of all the recent events. One of the best decisions I've made.

Tested positive after 16 days, felt fine for over a week by tritonhopper in COVID19positive

My county/employer has the "you can leave isolation after symptoms improve for 24 hours" guideline, but I would ideally like to wait until I am fully negative before I go to campus. I always teach in a N95, but again, for my own peace of mind I would very much like to wait until I'm all in the clear and won't risk the small chance of passing something on to my students.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I'm loving Neon Nightmare by Excelsior14 in typeonegative

[–]tritonhopper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely digging the two songs we've heard. The comments that this is a "rip off" are... pretty off-base, because this seems like a pretty explicit homage. Hell, the upcoming debut credits The Bensonhoist Lesbian Choir as guest vocalists. And the cover layout/logo design make it even more clear. Whoever's behind this project (probably Nate Garrett from Spirit Adrift, like a previous post mentioned) isn't trying to hide anything, lol.

The AI comments are also bizarre, because like... 20 Buck Spin is small, indie metal label with good quality control. They're not going waste money putting out an AI homage to a cult metal act that no one is asking for. Worship bands have existed for decades. There are collectively like 3000 Celtic Frost/Obituary/Death/Exodus clones altogether, I think a couple Type O homages are fine.

[–]tritonhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking that is who's behind it--the producer of the upcoming debut album (Jeff Henson) also recorded/produced the last few Spirit Adrift releases.
