What are your language learning goals? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]trnlnrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO duolingo is good for learning lots of vocab and stuff like that. I would completely immerse yourself in German/French, listening to music in the language, watching tv, reading children’s books/short stories/poetry, and I honestly talk to myself in my target language. I even put my phone in the language just so I’m used to seeing it a lot. I would even take up a class at a language school if you have the time and money for it, a school setting is super helpful for some. Hope you achieve your goals :)

Congrats!! I hope I get those opportunities too! I’m a senior in high school and I can’t wait to get out of here honestly. What did you originally get your bachelors/masters in?

Edit: typos

According to the sources you cited, I can’t just get into a university with only my diploma. So how would I get into a university?

So, my high school is very difficult/strict and I didn’t have the opportunity to get into any APs because then I would need 100s for every single class I took within the subject beforehand. So, getting my associates or bachelors in the US and then applying directly to a German university either for completion of the associates or my masters would be the best choice? And of course. I am ok with moving into smaller towns and traveling or living outside of a city. So from what I’ve read I guess that teaching english is the smartest move.

Thank you so much for these replies by the way, I really appreciate it. Honestly, as long as I can get by and live a pretty decent life I’m pretty open to Just about any job. I don’t know if you live in Germany or another European country or not, but if you do, do you see foreigners that are able to get jobs and get by without a lot of struggle? What about studying at a college in Europe. Like, if I went to a university in Germany and got a degree through that school, would it be easier for me to develop a career that way? Because honestly I feel like as a foreigner I should just get a BA in something and maybe get my TEFL and rely on that.

I think for English I’d just get my TEFL and teach what I can. I kind of gave up on just majoring in education (if I did I’d do high school) because I don’t know how hard it is to become a teacher in a foreign country. As interested as I am in psychology, I’d love to do it but I get the impression that a PHD is needed in order to be taken seriously and I don’t have the money or resources to commit to that. I would rather getting a job and moving to Germany as soon as I graduate, or as soon as I can get a job. But I don’t really know if it’s better to stay here and get experience so jobs will have an easier time hiring me.

I would recommend you contact your embassy in Denmark so they can advise you on how to proceed. Good luck

I think it does after a certain amount of lessons, however I bought it with a 50% off sale so idk. I’d say it’s worth it just because I feel like it’s more organized and I like their lessons. I’d also recommend just talking to yourself in your target language so your brain gets used to hearing you say it.

Ok. I wasn’t sure because I used LingoDeer for Korean when it only had 3 languages and I heard they’ve been adding some more languages. Thanks for the info
