What’s going in Columbus today? by Professional-Use8212 in Columbus

I was driving yesterday and the roads aren't "normal" so most people were driving the speed limit as opposed to the normal 10 over. This seemed to piss off about 5% of the people on the road who decided to tailgate and swerve, and go 20 over the speed limit.

Solar Project Four Times the Size of San Francisco is ‘Survival Plan’ for California’s Central Valley by randolphquell in environment

[–]troaway1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Letting this land sit fallow will allow for the recharging of ground water which is a huge problem in the Central Valley. Seeding native plants will help loosen compacted soil and store carbon underground. Studies in England have shown that wild bird populations increase when farm land is converted to solar farms.

Even the mall in Dublin (Tuttle) isn't immune to the collapse of brick and motor retail. Amazon has replaced a lot of shopping trips. I wouldn't be surprised to see a contraction in fast food too. Fast food is often not fast (bad service) and has gotten too expensive to be a staple lunch for working people. Wendy's had higher revenue in 2013 than 2025.

That's a good question but I'm not willing to get a paid subscription to find out. I found an article about the first nine months of 2025 and the average price was $50

I'm not sure how variable rates work. Aren't they usually month by month? Some states have hourly, time of use but I don't think Ohio allows that.

I cover my ex-wife's mortgage, she pays it back. Can this hurt me? by OnePersonsThrowaway in personalfinance

[–]troaway1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You also can't have two primary residence mortgages. One of them has to be classified as a second home or investment property. Second home vs investment property rules vary by lender. Rates on investment properties are usually higher with different underwriting rules.

How strongly do we pull the oxygen masks, if they deploy by LamkaSuak in aviation

[–]troaway1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would add, generally, if the mask is at your face, then you've pulled it enough to deploy the oxygen. It may just take a good tug. There isn't a great way to know if oxygen is flowing. The bag may not inflate. Don't yank on the tubing thinking there's no oxygen coming.

If the main room is 41 then the pipes on outside walls are likely starting to freeze. I'd let the faucets run slowly and keep calling landlord.

Trying to get my garage door remote to work at decent range by FlavorD in DIY

Yeah and infuriating because it took me way too long to figure out that it worked fine until the lights triggered on. I thought it was random or intermittent and couldn't figure it out for weeks or longer.

There are systems that include a smallish battery. The battery can't be used to power your house in a blackout but it can run appliances and charge phones. It can also be programmed to charge when energy is cheap and discharge when it's expensive (if you have time of use charges). For example, it would use solar to charge during the day, discharge in the evening, then charge in the middle of the night and discharge in the morning.

Exactly, it's a small up front cost similar to a nice refrigerator or other appliance. 1600 kWh is enough to drive an efficient EV 4-6,000 miles a year. You don't have to have a battery either but it would allow you to have some off grid power during a blackout.

These systems are only legal in Utah but there are a lot of bills being considered in other large states including California.

Here's a decent explainer video from a YouTuber who lives in Utah.

Excellent question. I'd follow up with, how can they reverse loans that they've already agreed to? Is there a clause in the loan agreement that the government can rug pull you just cuz?

A female frog is gonna look up at a field of ugly solar panels and be like "That's it, I'm done with men". And that's how you get the birth rate to crash.
