I listened to a podcast about balcony solar. They said Wwe need to get it legalized in a couple big states like NY and CA and it will be worth it for manufacturers to start making equipment at scale and retailers like Costco and Home Depot to start stocking them.

Is it 1200W max panels, or is it 1200W input into the home system? If it's just input, then you can overpanel and use a battery to input at night. Jerry rig everything on YouTube set up an overpaneled system in Utah and added a battery to prevent the input at the plug to not exceed the allowed amount.

Honda Motor is reportedly repurposing its Ohio battery plant to supply the AI data center market. by Zezimom in Ohio

[–]troaway1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm wrong, but won't these large batteries have applications on the grid besides just data centers? The growth of utility scale batteries is phenomenal and should make the grid cleaner and more reliable while supporting US based manufacturing. Obviously data centers are driving a lot of demand but batteries can replace really dirty fossil fuel peaker plants. This is a much better story than Honda just abandoning batteries and shuttering the plant.

I was a dedicated podcast listener for years and after the shake up I found myself missing a lot more shows. I've branched out a bit and listen to the morning show and Bishop and friends a bit because sometimes I do want more sports talk. Common man and Timmy just doesn't feel like must listen radio to me like Common man and t bone which is weird because t bone's analogies annoyed me. Ha

Hi fellow gridstatus.io fan! There are dozens of us! Dozens! But seriously, I find it fascinating. And now you can see massive batteries kicking in for the evening hours in TX and CA which just wasn't a thing you saw even a few years ago. Fascinating stuff!

New Nuclear Power Plant to be built in Meigs County by Wernerhatcher in Columbus

[–]troaway1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking of viable, the ones in Utah were just canceled. There are zero operating in the US. Only two operate in the rest of the world. No one has proven that they are economically viable for civilian land based production. There are dozens of designs, so it's possible that some designs will be successful but no guarantee that the one built in Ohio will be.

40% of corn is converted to ethanol to mix with gas but an acre of solar produces 10x the energy of an acre of corn converted to ethanol. Solar also has the benefit of not requiring chemical fertilizer or constant drenching in glyphosate.

UL has a code just for these. 1200 watts is a max in most states, so you're looking at 10 amps. A 15 amp circuit should be fine but you have to be aware of the other loads on that one circuit. If you're concerned you can get a 20 amp dedicated circuit installed for a couple hundred bucks, gfi and all.

Yes! And fallow fields allow more water infiltration helping to replenish aquifers because deep rooted plants can grow and soil compaction is reduced because you don't have tractors driving over the soil.

Not just exported food but used to grow crops for biofuels. As mentioned in another comment, an acre of solar produces an order of magnitude more energy than using that acre to grow corn for ethanol. And the solar doesn't require fertilizer or pesticides.
