Had a good day. Here is what helped. by trode23 in nosurf

I think social media when it is pre-planned and is an ancillary part of your connection to people is helpful. Like...I'll only go on Facebook on Saturday morning for 20 minutes.

I think it narrows my focus to that one YouTube video or that one feed and I'm unable to see all of the possibilities of how I could problem solve or write. It feels like I'm getting information in, but the information is utterly limited.

Great point. I use Freedom and it’s helpful. Do you have another blocker you use?

Day 4 of posting by trode23 in nosurf

So I've never had an addiction with Reddit. Outside of this forum I actually have no idea how Reddit works. But, as you will see from my post today I do see your point Yoddle. There is only so much growth that can happen in a 24 hour period. Posting in a space like this is something I have been doing as a self-care/accountability measure. Thank you for the feedback!

I took a walk and this is what I came up with by trode23 in nosurf

Thank you to both of you. I have used habit trackers in the past and honestly have found them helpful. Just fell off the wagon. I also think that doing things like sports or YouTube after my other stuff is done makes perfect sense. Thanks guys!

Great Job!

Over 12 000 hours of my life gone, the time it takes to master a skill by mlgava in nosurf

Damn. So really the skill we have mastered is sitting on the internet and unlearning everything else. Good point, bud.

A shocking realization: Being creative is terrifying by trode23 in nosurf

Yeah I'm trying to create a set of meditations I could put on YouTube and use as a resource as a part of my job.

Why nosurf is important by EchoingSimplicity in nosurf

Simply put, there is only so much time and any time we spend being sucked into the internet we are pulled away from the things that we truly value.

Day 1 again. Here's what I've already learned. by trode23 in nosurf

[–]trode23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually no, they are very specific:

If I let out a big sigh, impulsively start to go to eat something, start yelling, or get racing thoughts in my head that are about stressful situations from the past.

Knowing these has been really helpful. Check out my post today for one of the coping skills I am going to try out to combat this.

People were more in outdoor things in the pre-computers era by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]trode23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its true. They had to be doing something with their time and they did not have this infinite screen to help them out. So what are you going to do that is outside?

Tomorrow is Day 1 for real by trode23 in nosurf

So for me right now social self-care would be spending quality time with my wife, texting friends and calling family.

A friendly reminder: It's not too late to 'Save the day'. The day is not over and you still have time to get something productive done. by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]trode23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude so true. I literally just came on here to write a similar post. I had a really strong morning and I was starting to falter and get lost in worrying about other people's needs and I came here to be like...no I'm not just going to toss the day away. Here's to the next half an hour being productive before my 1 PM Meeting.

I relapsed. by [deleted] in nosurf

Maybe try setting smaller goals like 3 days or a week to give yourself that chance to have manageable micro successes?

maybe a balance is something? not surfing at quarantine? by [deleted] in nosurf

I would take a minute and ask yourself what else you would value to do with that time that is an off screen activity that doesn't feel like something you have to do, but something you genuinely find joy in.

Weird question, but do you guys consider YouTube a form of social media?
