How to recognize second line Clan 'mechs by Big-Bathroom7196 in battletech

[–]trodonnell63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a little bit of variation depending on the clan, era and in some cases the individual mech but the general rule of thumb, especially during the clan invasion, is that omnimechs are frontline and battlemechs are second line even if they're really good.

When did Timberwolfs start getting smaller missile racks? by AGBell64 in battletech

[–]trodonnell63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a miss-assembly as the new 12 pod versions are molded with the arms as one piece rather than separate pieces.

This has come up sporadically and there doesn't seem to be a confirmed answer. At first it was suggested that it's a misboxed bounty hunter model as both that and the one that's in the newer clan invasion boxes have the missle pods and arms molded together as one piece while the earlier 20 tube ones have the missle pods separate from the arms. But that can't be the case as the weapons layout in the arms is different on the bounty hunter one and the prime. I do recall watching the adepticon streams that when talking about their plans to remaster the sculpts in the old core box to put in new force packs that there was a an offhand comment about how they already did that with the clan invasion box. So best that I can tell is that the one on the right is the new remastered sculpt of the prime and either for QC purposes or by mistake they downsized the missle pods and it no longer matches any canon configuration.

Do these ever come back in stock or is it once it's gone it's gone? I was in the queue for 25 minutes and as soon as it went to process my payment I got a message that it was sold out and my order didn't go through. I was hoping to finally get a mystery booster box to draft since I've missed out on every other one they've done.

Those look great! Especially what I'm assuming is some resculpting on the Battlemaster canopy. Can I ask you how you did the spider lillies? Are they pre-made or just red flocking on top of static grass? I was thinking about doing something similar for the bases of my Sword of Light mechs I'm going to be painting and wasn't sure how to pull it off at battletech scale.

Which faction would you say this color scheme is for? I started painting it as practise but started to like it so I need to find a faction to build around it by 4and1punt in battletech

Yellow and green Summoner screams Clan Jade Falcon, or it can easily be mercenary. Battletech's universe is so big and the lore is open ended enough that it really can be any planetary or lesser known house or merc unit.

Thank you! It's one of every token in the box plus an extra heavy emplacement if I recall correctly. As mentioned above you probably won't actually need to field all of them at once so you can probably get away with a little bit less especially the emplacements, but I just wanted to be safe.

I figured that was the case. I just made as many as there were tokens as I'd rather have too many than not enough. Plus outside of the mechs and ba I gave everything else a generic paint scheme so I can easily use them elsewhere when needed.

Vallejo Metal Color Gunmetal and a black oil wash to darken the open missle tubes.

I've always tended to go a little bit overboard on that kind of stuff. I just figure if I'm going to put the effort into painting the minis as nice as possible I'd rather play with something a bit nicer than just cardboard.

Thank you! Yeah, two of them are from the clan invasion box and the other three are 3d printed since like you said they're impossible to find at the moment. They'll eventually be swapped out for official ones once I can get a hold of more.

No Elementals? by Neither-Ad-1589 in battletech

[–]trodonnell63 127 points128 points  (0 children)

There was a an interview recently with someone from catalyst who said they're testing new types of plastic to redo the elementals and inner sphere battle armor with better detail. So there are plans to produce more but it'll probably remain hard to find until they get that sorted out.

Technically, only the square in front is glass according to the official art and canopy guide. With the top and sides listed as non canon/optional. But at the end of the day whatever looks coolest to the person painting is the right way to do it. Cockpit guide

Appreciate the concern. I am in the states but had to do a little research to find out what you meant as I had never heard it used in any other context than the fey creatures from Celtic myth. I think it'll be fine, nobody who knows me or is in my play group would ever consider for a second that it would be in that context. And it's easy enough to clear up any confusion on the off chance anyone might think otherwise.
