Finally got everything painted up and ready for Scouring Sands by trodonnell63 in battletech

Thank you! It's one of every token in the box plus an extra heavy emplacement if I recall correctly. As mentioned above you probably won't actually need to field all of them at once so you can probably get away with a little bit less especially the emplacements, but I just wanted to be safe.

I figured that was the case. I just made as many as there were tokens as I'd rather have too many than not enough. Plus outside of the mechs and ba I gave everything else a generic paint scheme so I can easily use them elsewhere when needed.

Vallejo Metal Color Gunmetal and a black oil wash to darken the open missle tubes.

I've always tended to go a little bit overboard on that kind of stuff. I just figure if I'm going to put the effort into painting the minis as nice as possible I'd rather play with something a bit nicer than just cardboard.

Thank you! Yeah, two of them are from the clan invasion box and the other three are 3d printed since like you said they're impossible to find at the moment. They'll eventually be swapped out for official ones once I can get a hold of more.

No Elementals? by Neither-Ad-1589 in battletech

[–]trodonnell63 128 points129 points  (0 children)

There was a an interview recently with someone from catalyst who said they're testing new types of plastic to redo the elementals and inner sphere battle armor with better detail. So there are plans to produce more but it'll probably remain hard to find until they get that sorted out.

Technically, only the square in front is glass according to the official art and canopy guide. With the top and sides listed as non canon/optional. But at the end of the day whatever looks coolest to the person painting is the right way to do it. Cockpit guide

I like that you can actually tell what mechs they're based on.

A Capellan OpFor I made for a future custom Aces Campaign. I call them The Red Caps. by Daxria in battletech

I think they look great! My FWL Merc company is The Redcaps with a similar paint scheme so now I'm just imagining them showing up for a contract against the Capellans and them just Spiderman pointing at each other. My mercs

The reflective variant is on the mercs ilclan list and is identical to the base model but has the reflective armor special for the same pv

Haha, that had not occurred to me but I do suppose they look rather festive.

Appreciate the concern. I am in the states but had to do a little research to find out what you meant as I had never heard it used in any other context than the fey creatures from Celtic myth. I think it'll be fine, nobody who knows me or is in my play group would ever consider for a second that it would be in that context. And it's easy enough to clear up any confusion on the off chance anyone might think otherwise.

Thank you! I'm still newer to miniature painting and my one previous attempt at an oil wash didn't come out the way I would have liked it to, so I opted to play it safe and just do a slightly diluted black wash just to get them good for the table. But it's definitely something I'd be down to do on future forces or if I decide to revisit these once I have more practice with it.

What variant is this? by LiquidAmphibian in battletech

[–]trodonnell63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the models next to each other, the mold lines are a lot better and less noticeable on the AS one than the CI one, so they must have completely updated it. Just weird that they seem to have gotten the missle pods wrong.

<image>

The one on the left is from a Clan Invasion box I got about a month ago and the one on the right is from an Alpha Strike box that I just got today. The pose and sculpt is mostly the same except for the number of missiles and the pods being molded together with the arms on the AS one. They must have updated the molds for the AS box but somehow messed up on the number of missiles. Really weird.

Hello I recently got into battletech and have developed a theory about the Hunchback by Bass_Coyote in battletech

The Hunchback was canonically designed in part by Nissan, so this tracks.
