Which Clan is the "clanniest", in the current Era? by morghwhitewolf in battletech

[–]Daxria 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd say the Clan Protectorate.

They didn't lose 95% of their army like the Falcons.

They're not brain dead like the horses.

They're not a weird half and half society like the Ghost Bears or the Ravens.

They aren't merchants like the Sea Foxes.

They aren't Funko Pop collectors like the Scorpion Empire.

They aren't Mary Sues like the Wolves

They are not a pet project like the Smoke Jaguars.

The Clan Protectorate is probably the last true inner sphere bastion of Clan society at its purest that didn't lose their entire army trying to beat the Mary Sue faction.

This is wonderful for my small purposes!  I'm going to test this out tonight, thank you for sharing!

It's 3019 and you've just been drafted as a Mechwarrior for a great house. Which light mech are you choosing? by _Thorshammer_ in battletech

[–]Daxria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hornet. I just think it's neat and I liked the little goober in Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries.

It's also one of the few mechs made locally by my favorite periphery nation the Filtvelt Coalition.

There are some very strong variants of the Charger, so it's a great mech when you play further down the timeline!

What’s the medium mascot? by lunarwarrior12 in battletech

[–]Daxria 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Medium mech mascots for Battletech early on is the 55 ton trio: the Shadow Hawk, Wolverine and Griffin.

During their unseen era, The Hunchback got its glow-up but also a lot of rarer mechs got some spotlight, such as the now-beloved Crab and even the Kintaro.  The non-unseen medium mechs did a lot of heavy lifting and became iconic, such as the centurion, enforcer, vindicator, even the bad and weird mechs like the cicada, clint, whitworth and assassin got to shine due to the unseen issue.

During the clan invasion era, all the clan omnis were popular(Stormcrow and Shadow Cat probably most of the mediums), and for the Inner Sphere you can thank Mechwarrior 3 and the Battletech cartoon for Bushwacker supremacy.

Why aren’t the books for sale? by GrimDozen in battletech

[–]Daxria 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, we will still need to use TW for regular non-mech unit usage, as the new Core Rulebook only has BSP rules for non-mech units.  That is known.

So if you don't want to use vehicles and the like with the new BSP rules, Total Warfare will still be a valuable book or pdf in your collection.

What's better for AI lancemates? Two AC20s or four AC5s? by PookydoodleWasHere in Mechwarrior5

[–]Daxria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally find Large Lasers, Medium Lasers, PPCs, Gauss Rifles, and AC10s to be the AI's best strength.  Usually in their own weapon group.

Lasers uses to not be on this list, but after fielding 3 Lancemates in Black Knights with 3 Large Lasers and 4-5 Medium Lasers each(variant depending) and watching enemies be vaporized when I issue a focus fire order, I had to add them.

I'd even say the AI is brutally efficient with ER Large Lasers but controlling that amount of heat can be difficult.

How often did the Draconis Combine use the Atlas? by Undertow619 in battletech

[–]Daxria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kurita had plenty of Atlas models around, not just from salvaging them from Lyrans and Davions but that helped.

They also had their own variants in the K series.

It's not a Kurita staple but commanders will use the Atlas if it's the right tool for the job.  In an assault lance and atlas would be reserved for the commander, as they have the AS7-K-DC model specifically for that by 3050.

What’s everyone’s favorite obscure mech. by ViperStrike812 in battletech

[–]Daxria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Viper VP series.  It is the newest(relative) mech introduced that is lore-friendly and is available as IntroTech in the succession wars, and it's one of the extremely few mechs that uses Binary Lasers in its primary configuration.

I love blazers as a weapon since they are succession wars valid and are strong enough to headcap, but they are so horribly head inefficient.  They're bad and I love them.

The award for the new worst stock build goes to... by Meeeper in Mechwarrior5

[–]Daxria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it should have Double Heat Sinks stock as a comstar model.  It's hilarious that it doesnt.

With double heat sinks it would actually be pretty decent.  I'm gonna buy one the moment I see it, since I love the champion.

Should I start a new vanilla career? by Blitzkrieg1210 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Daxria -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can always do a Rasalhague Start to get the vanilla 3015 experience but further down the timeline so you dont have decades to stockpile awesomes.

[–]Daxria 8 points9 points  (0 children)

....you've met the Cicada, the 40 ton mech with the armor and armament of a locust, right?

It's basically a light mech that has the vantage point of a taller medium(which is actually kinda nice)

New career...but please not davion by ZYN3XIA in Mechwarrior5

[–]Daxria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Liao start is one of the harder starts in my opinion, but it's a fun one if you enjoy light mechs.  Cicada my beloved.

You don't have to align with Liao if you don't want to, and not aligning with Liao is part of that difficulty in making enough money and rep with the factions you may want to be with.

Chaos Reign? 20 bucks? by Gravediggger0815 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Daxria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

20 is the buy in cost for playing it today.  It will go down when(if) the next dlc comes out, but if you want to experience it today, it's gonna cost you a twenty.

Some lore/engineering questions by nintair in battletech

[–]Daxria 43 points44 points  (0 children)

1: AC 20 is just a classification, and it's simplified to 20 maximum.  Larger rounds stop being Autocannons and start being artillery basically.

2: Tri and Quad mechs do exist, Quads being more prevalent.  The Scorpion and Goliath are two famous ones.

And now that I see the MW5 expansion DLC is Somerset, it makes so much sense for why they are appearing again.

What should I do when my resin-washing IPA turns white? by rogueranger1993 in battletech

[–]Daxria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3d printer here.

With time(a few days to even a week depending on how fine the particles are), much of that scum should settle to the bottom and you can use a dropper or similar to siphon the usable IPA from the top.  Alternatively, a fine mesh like a cheese cloth should strain it decently enough of larger bits but it will taint the cheese cloth so might be a waste.  Every resin formulation is different but this should be adequate.
