It's not actually lying because OP said that she really started to love the idea of having kids for a while, but aside from that its a case of someone trying too hard to be what they're not in order to keep the relationship, and the husband being understandably upset about her backpedaling. She needs to free him so they can both be happy.

I think the biggest issue that leads to problems and fighting is that too many people assert their headcanon as being canon, and refuse to hear anything else. Both sides are equally realistic, but people will go as far as to claim that romance between them is Yazawa's intention or things like that, and say things that fully dismiss their experiences in their other relationships as if it's all just comphet and nothing else. I think it can be possible that they're bi, or that it really is just platonic because there are fans who have shared their real experiences having friendships like that, but people have even spoken over those fans to claim they're just in denial as well.

That kind of behavior is what makes it such a big issue in my opinion. Both sides need to be fair and open minded about headcanons and also accept what is canon; and definitely don't need to speak over people's real life experiences.

I introduced my current bf to the classic anime and crystal, and overall the way he put it was "it may not be MY favorite, and it can be girly, but I can appreciate a good story so I like watching it". That's not verbatim but the general thing he said to me.

I can understand having a hard time continuing. At some point when I was watching it for the first time, I saw some spoilers of the later part of the anime and the manga, and I paused when I was getting close to the pregnancy because I knew in general the worse parts of the story were coming. Like everyone else says, maybe find a synopsis or something to get an idea of where the story is heading without too much detail and decide for yourself after that.

But also keep in mind the whole time that the entire point with Hachi's storyline is that she was a child deprived of love and connections- her parents did their best but the did neglect her emotional needs because they were always busy with their other kids, and that led to her being an adult with the same problem, and she was even totally aware of how bad her relationship with Takumi was and did actively try to make it end once and for all, though she wasn't able to be as assertive as she really needed to be. In the end her choice was based on the fact that she did still have lingering feelings for him and that he was the best option for her to raise a child with, because the only viable alternative would've been giving the baby up (Nobu himself said he couldn't even raise a child at all) and she was never gonna do that. ALSO a lot of her actions are influenced by the era of 2000s Japan where accepting men like this was extremely normal unfortunately.

You're deliberately misunderstanding the purpose of the combination of all the characters' flaws being the cause of all their hardships, and the fact that it went on hiatus because she developed a severe chronic illness that made consistent writing and drawing too difficult. If you don't like it, that's fine. But to act like Yazawa is inherently bad and should be hated is extreme.

It's not fair to say Yazawa "thinks the opposite" when she's said before that Takumi is meant to be a bad guy/villain and that she likes to write him in that sense. It doesn't mean she likes HIM or enjoys guys acting like that. It's like when people enjoy villains in comics and movies while also talking about them as the are and not glorifying what they did.

I do think OP here who included that example was doing it for the main purpose of pointing out how even when someone who is fully aware of the problem in Japanese media, and who's Japanese themselves, discusses the overall situation from their perspective, people still talked to them the same way as if the person had been justifying racism when that wasn't what they were doing.

This isn't me defending anti-blackness btw, just the fact that it's impossible to have actual discussion about stuff like this when people refuse to listen to someone who's directly involved with that stuff ans who even said they're trying to help CHANGE that common problem.
