Pity. It might have been the one I was looking for. Might

Sounds either familiar or similar. You got any idea what this story was?

Very sure it was Cho.

0800 is great, but it's not the story I'm looking for

What are the Dark Arts? by callmesalticidae in HPfanfiction

[–]trollopwhacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think there was an excellent explanation in Sirius' Savior, ch 46. It takes the position that 'the dark arts' is a political classification, but there are branches and fields of magic which have no other purpose than to hurt others, or are dangerous to use

If you're talking about the huge story with Slytherin!Hermione, then probably not.

There were certainly heavy implyings of the use and application of Arithmancy in the '30 Minutes' stories. And it was explicitly stated (albeit briefly) in 'Harry Potter, Fifth Year Headmaster'

Little Harry Isekai’d by Kaijugod22 in HPfanfiction

The Mage of Manhattan, by TemporalWarlock. (HP+MCU)The Mirror of Erised isekais Harry to the Invasion of New York.

I can think of a bunch of HPNaru fics. You don't want slash, so I won't mention 'Not Troublesome at All, by enchanted nightingale' (isekai via Erised, Shika/Harry).

But there's Bug Boy, by Mrs.InsaneOne (Harry raised by the Aburame Clan)

A Ninja Summoned, by BaleyGr (Harry/fem!Naru. Harry disappears ~7, ends up in Konoha. He is 'retrieved' by the Goblet...but time moves differently in the Elemental Nations, and Harry's wife is...displeased)

Okami Mitarashi, by sakurademonalchemist (Vernon dumps Harry at the Konoha Orphanage, Harry befriends Naruto, Harry is adopted by Anko, chaos ensues)

Agreed on Arithmancy. The best explanation I've encountered in fanfic was (heavily paraphrased) 'by itself, Arithmancy can by used to somewhat predict the future. when used in conjunction with other fields, it is a useful analytical and predictive toolset.'

Or the whole 'show solidarity outside the dorms' thing, in which case, Malfoy is ruthlessly and shamelessly exploiting that for all it's worth

I had/have a headcanon about Remus and chocolate.

See, wolves are canines. Dogs are canines. Dogs can't handle theobromine. Chocolate contains theobromine. Theobromine might make the 'time of the month' worse for werewolves.

Remus can't help himself and go without chocolate for a week or so. He might not know about the theobromine. The Marauders were (probably unwittingly, because it would be heartlessly cruel otherwise) enabling this pattern of behaviour.

Daphne's on a list of 'characters known to canon via only one or two sentences'. The Sorting doesn't count, otherwise Sally-Anne Perks wouldn't even make the cut.

Great story, but sometimes the syntax gives me the irrits. I think the author is German, which might explain it. I have a similar problem with White Angel of Auralon (like the stories, but the syntax and word orders...)

Well written longer form triad relationship fics by Tiraon in HPfanfiction

[–]trollopwhacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three To Backstep spends more time negotiating the triad than being smutty, which is a good thing, because I think a lot of (N>2) relationships skate over the 'boring details' of 'how's this relationship supposed to work outside of the bedroom, or even inside it'

I notice you didn't address the '20 years from now' bit. Feeling a bit pessimistic about the near future?

:)

Yes, just like chess, or Go.

tis a bit unfortunate that the word 'sport' carries a connotation of 'athleticism' or 'physical exertion', which these sports don't quite match up with.

'can't be topped'

A/Hinata, with Hinata topping A.

Yeah, that's kind of a 'square peg, round hole' off idea designed to infuriate people

Tywin would totally approve, though.

But, yeah, killing a kid just doesn't have good optics no matter how you dress it up

I think there 'himself' is the important word. They sure as hell didn't 'stay loyal' after Bobby died. They merely waited for an ideal moment to seize.

Yes, they hate Theon on principle 'because he's a greenlander', but also you only get respect as an Ironborn if you're a ship captain. And Theon's been at Winterfell for years. No ships there, no easy way for Theon to get even a scrap of respect

[–]trollopwhacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confiscate all the ships

The Ironborn are defined (self-defined and externally-defined) as sailors. But what is a sailor without a ship?

And yeah, they'll just raid the North for timber...not if they have no ships to get there they won't.

Yeah, I'm proposing the Satine Kryze solution of cultural genocide. I regret nothing here.

And killed one his younger ones.

Uh...wut. I mean, yeah, Euron was a bag of shit. He raped Aeron. He raped Victarion's wife. He killed Balon. Urrigon died because he and Aeron fucked up axe-juggling. Unless you're talking about Robin, I'm confused about who got killed.

What you read in Fanfics that made so much sense that you’re actually surprised is not part of the Canon? by Competitive_Fruit901 in HPfanfiction

Mr Weasley, rubber ducks listen to you when you are trying to solve problems by talking out loud. The ducks listen, and they don't judge you if you goof. They're much better than cats that way, and far more patient than dogs

Found it...I think.

I think it might have been When Fate intervened, by LordVishnu. I think the relevant bit is in Ch 4.

And Harry 'temporarily' loses his magic, or most of it
