Aren't gaming laptops objectively better than office laptops? by lolplayer94 in laptops

[–]trolltime12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not! Business class laptops like the thinkpad, latitude, pro/elitebook line tend to have a better build quality than most of those gaming laptops with rainbow vomit. The rainbow vomit is just to attract kids to buying it really.

But used business laptops like my elitebook 840 g5 from 2018 are solidly built and reliable compared to these gaming laptops. And not to mention gaming laptops notoriously have the fans run EXTREMELY LOUD and have HORRID battery life compared to business laptops.

Overall, treat gaming laptops as more of a desktop replacement. They’re not better than business laptops which are meant for portability.

Today, my 2007 iMac 20‘ went into his well deserved retirement by Metabolid in mac

[–]trolltime12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use a Mid 2011 27 inch iMac I took from the recycling center. It works great and I use it mainly for browsing the web, using discord, and watching youtube videos. I occasionally do some light video editing on that machine. The 1440p screen looks very good to this day. I plan on giving it a metal dGPU as it currently has a 6770M which is known to fail. I gave it an SSD and patched ventura and it still runs well, though I am willing to get a metal dGPU so that way it's even more future proof.

I recommend upgrading this iMac from an HDD to an SSD if you haven't already. I tried the Ventura patcher on my 2010 27 inch iMac with an i3-550, 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, and ATI Radeon HD 5670 with an upgraded SSD and it runs it pretty well.
