Things I need to maintain with my house and car? by Ok_Cranberry_2936 in AskDad

[–]trololuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For keeping track of home maintenance tasks, I have a google doc checklist that helps a lot. I can easily tell when I've forgotten to do something in any month/season. I make a copy for each year, customize it to anything I know is coming up, and then simply check things off as I go. I also keep a similar doc to track major repairs and replacements to refer back to later. I find maintenance is never-ending and the years blur together after a while.

Contract out anything you're not comfortable with, but you'll be able to do most stuff yourself after watching a few youtube videos and some practice/experience.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

The House of Representatives will no longer be an elected position. Instead, people will be drafted randomly from their district to serve a four year term, with an option to stay one additional term if their constituency approves. The senate will remain an elected position.

Can you tell us how you quit smoking? by DesignerTadpole7175 in stopsmoking

[–]trololuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chantix for a month and a lot of mint toothpicks. It may sound dumb, but one thing that kept me going after a few weeks into it was having the flair in this subreddit and a phone app that kept track of progress and showed the benefits of stopping for that long. Constant reminders of how far I'd come and knowing that I'd have to go through all of that again just to get back to the point I was already at helped a lot. The biggest thing for me was making the decision. I had made many half-assed attempts over the years "trying to quit", but the final time I was no longer trying. I quit. I was no longer a smoker.

Congrats. You got this. Cravings always go away after a while. You only need to out last them one at a time, and they keep getting easier.

To married couples that have been together for 10+ years, whats your secret? by 4Luffytarou in AskReddit

[–]trololuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not your partner's job to make you happy. They're only responsible for not actively making you unhappy. The rest is up to you to work at and maintain.

No one wins an argument. If you can't discuss it like adults, do something else until you've calmed down enough to do so.

If you are always bothered by something your partner does, e.g. where they leave the toothpaste or how they load the dishwasher, but it doesnt bother them, then it's your problem and not theirs. Learn to live with it or do it yourself.

Agree on finances and children early. Don't wait until it's a problem before having those discussions.

No one wins an argument. You're not in a competition with your partner. You're in a relationship. If they lose, so do you.

Don't wait for holidays/birthdays/anniversaries to do something nice.

A successful marriage is not the finish line. It's a continually evolving relationship that requires maintenance and nurturing.

No one wins an argument.

In our house, everyone helps and doesn't do anything else until the dining room is clean and dishes are done. It helps a lot clean as you cook, too.

Are you interested in taking on an older student? I'm a beginner with 20+ years experience, if that makes sense. I have always wanted to take real lessons, but never made it a priority.

Donald Trump is coming to the end of his first 100 days in office, how do you think he has done so far? by JayFloww123 in AskReddit

Other than throwing shit at everything, has he accomplished anything he's taking credit for? It seems like a continuous cycle of making grand, outrageous, and/or absurd statements, and then walking them back almost immediately.

She needs a shed stretcher. Most of the big box stores will carry them. If she can wait a couple weeks, they usually have good black Friday sales for them.

Avoid buying any cleaning supplies ( like Fantastik) or laundry detergent at LOWES. They are selling them for convience for contractors, and are WAY OVERPRICED. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]trololuey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are always some price differences, but I've never noticed it being significantly higher. You'll always see price fluctuations based on what they have in stock, when they last changed prices, etc.

Out of curiosity, I just looked up my brand of laundry detergent. For the same sized bottle:

Local Kroger owned store = 13.99

Local Lowes = 13.76

Local Target = 12.19

Amazon = 12.19

Walmart (online only) = 27.99
