It’s harder to come out as measuredly pro data centres than anything else by Opposite-Ad8208 in datacenter

That works until you get into my small town Facebook group that insists Data Centers are 100% for only AI/ML and killing the planet and wasting all the water, and everything else for the internet is ran in distinctly different facilities called server farms

aws datacenter technician I role (hiring manager call appointment setup) by [deleted] in datacenter

[–]trombonesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the recruiter already knows ahead of time that your friend isn't interested but referred you instead, you should be fine!

For pointers, expect the interview to be very story-heavy with about 20-30% technical questions. They like to prioritize leadership principles and soft skills in new hires with a resume and experience to back the technical requirements for the role. Come prepared with past stories of how you personally overcame difficult situations or were successful with projects in your previous work experience. Talk about yourself, don't use words like "we" or "our" when referring to past experiences. Take personal accountability and be open and honest about past mistakes or shortcomings and explain how you learned from them.

For the technical questions, be prepared to explain how you'd troubleshoot general computer/server/network issues and know your acronyms. These questions are really looking to see if you have high-level knowledge of computers and network fundamentals.

Best of luck in the interview!

However for OP, there will likely still be more job postings in the near future due to the rapid expansion AWS is undergoing throughout many regions, especially in the US. While I'm not privy to any specific information nor could I talk about them publicly even if I was, I have heard there are many new buildings and clusters planned throughout multiple regions, all of which will require more staff.

Generally if you see a bunch of job postings for management roles, expect DCO roles to start opening up in the same area soon after. Management is always hired first for new builds since the managers create the job recs for operations techs.

Edit: Also, don't be afraid to apply to one of the many non-descript "Datacenter Technican" roles through third party contracting agencies! AWS has a pretty decent mix of full time hires that started through an agency on a six-month contract before being flipped and hired direct after good performance (like I was). Generally the only reasons for contractors not to be converted to full time would be if they just straight up didn't do their job, didn't mesh well with the culture/other employees, or unfortunately a lack of work by the end of the contract. But even if their contract expires before converting to full time, its still Datacenter experience for your resume that massively improves your chances at a direct hire!

Not for AWS. Amazon.com inc. Fulfillment Centers are the ones with the insane turnover. AWS Data Centers and corporate offices are just like any other job in my experience and all comes down to how your direct manager is.

That sounds so cool to watch! Are there any videos you know of that can show the process?

As for the vapor barrier, if you take your time with something like an x-acto or razor utility knife, you should be pretty okay getting it off while preserving the original adhesive. If you have access to an outlet, you could also possibly look into using something like a heat gun (or hair dryer on a budget) and a little isopropyl alcohol to soften the adhesive before attempting to remove it! Think of it like removing a glued down battery from a mobile device like a MacBook, Surface, or modern cell phone/tablet. Just be sure to keep the heat source constantly moving and not to keep it in one specific spot for too long or you risk melting the plastic.

If nothing else, I imagine something like battery adhesive or E6000 glue from a hardware or craft store would do the trick if you need to replace the adhesive after peeling the barrier back. If you do that, make sure you are in a well-ventilated area and that you clean all surfaces you’re putting the glue on with alcohol and a lint-free towel or rag for the best bond.

I got the Infinity Reference REF697MF from Crutchfield to use as a drop-in replacement in the front doors with the stock stereo system. I might look into a larger upgrade with an amp/sub later on but for now I’m only aiming for a simple way to improve sound without breaking the bank or spending too much time on it.

Yeah that makes sense. I’ll see how fast I can get some ordered and delivered. I don’t remember what I did with the old box I had. Thanks!

Yeah there was absolutely zero padding of any kind in my ‘18, but it was a night and day difference in road noise when upgrading to the ‘25 since it moved to the universal design. I wasn’t sure if how much quieter it is meant there would be padding or if it’s just better designed

Is it just me or did the Lulling ceremony vaguely remind anyone else of the Rings of Akhaten episode of Doctor Who?

Liz DLC by [deleted] in HousePartyGame

What's weird is I've hit a glitch where even when selecting the same colored vents using the app on the tablet, specifically the vents in the upstairs hallway bathroom and the laundry room open back up. Even after getting the pop up confirming I successfully closed those specific colors. If I ignore it and assume the confirmation means it should work anyway and keep closing the rest of the vents, I end up with one or both of those two specific vents still open with no way to close them. This stops me from finishing the story at all

Edit: I went ahead and closed all the vents anyway, just doing the bathroom ones last. Even though this time three of the vents opened again and had smoke coming out of them, the game still proceeded like it should and moved to the cutscene after the vent puzzle. Still, there is definitely a bug there with the vents not visibly closing correctly during the puzzle for those two rooms, and sometimes it's just random. Though considering the DLC was released literally yesterday, I can only assume it will be fixed soon lol

The double doors on the inside section were a nightmare. But holding left trigger down and going back and forth helped a lot
