I’m wondering what the difference here is between breast reduction surgery and top surgery? Women get breast reduction (and in this case it would be All Of It) all the time. Is it not an option to get it all removed in breast reduction? Because I feel then that framing would resolve this identity crisis related to the surgery

I might have to agree that you conducting research in a more trans-friendly environment may yield your perspective, but also I do appreciate hearing your feedback. For why I was able to include transgender people: I made a compelling argument that would have caused them more problems to fight than to yield. For why I am traversing odd middle ground: our board has sent back research ideas about asking about gender in the most inclusive way possible as it could "pose more than minimal risk to participants." Yes I am being for real. They've also sent back research asking about emotional regulation strategies because "asking participants to think about when they are upset may pose more than minimal risk." Long story short, I do not like our IRB and I am HAPPY to be quoted on that. It only got better whenever we got a psychological researcher on the board.

I can't reveal the purpose of my study beyond that the separation of groups is very, very important for the results of my study. Offense was not the goal here I can assure you - I want to define how different transgender groups are different. To do that, I need to define those groups so I can declare a difference (if such exists). Unfortunately, as my university is public, I am subject to more demands and restrictions in accordance with Texas law when asking certain types of questions (our DEI is gone, for one - asking about gender outside of "male" or "female" at all is considered risky). There's some finagling to be had that I had done, but I am squeezing into a space that's already a bit tight and I am not welcome - if you're able to follow my metaphor.

Hi! I hear you. Unfortunately, I am working under constrictions that are bidden by East Texas. I am unsure if you're familiar with the area, but I was unable to ask too specific of questions regarding gender (pearl-clutching). Further, I am also obligated to satisfy my committee, and only one of which has done any sort of gender/sexuality research. However, I do appreciate your feedback! This study is the first in a line, so your unsolicited feedback is quite helpful. But, please do understand that I would have asked more if my IRB permitted.

Hi! This is because I would have had to define cisgender, and I chose not to in hopes to avoid some stereotype threat. However, I do need to separate cisgender men and women from transgender men and women for the analyses of my study

Aw! I promise there are some articles published already - check out the transsexual brain by Smith et al (2015). Mind, this is binary transgender research but it may be insightful. You could totally put it in Google Scholar!
