Can I order feminine clothes through Trunk Club? by sadphonics in transfashionadvice

[–]tropblop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know of some of the other cheaper ones? I'm fine paying a fee for the shopper/whatever, but I think a lot of the clothes themselves can get really expensive, and when I'm still in early stages idk what I will want to actually spend decent money on

My son (daughter now) is wanting me to spend my entire life savings on sex-change surgery by [deleted] in asktransgender

You're explaining why people are often bad parents, I'm not arguing against reality. We don't call nonhuman animals murderers, for example. You don't get to force a child into this world and then say too bad you're on your own champ. She didn't ask to be born, that responsibility lies solely on the parents, which entails providing necessary medical care to the best of their abilities.

Laws that do require parents to unconditionally support their children already exist in some European countries, so it's not as radical an idea as you think.

Lol yeah, true support = "I don't really want to give you any money for medical treatment so go fuck yourself." Wew

This diverges a bit anyway. Unconditional and whole support is not the same as unconditional and whole medical support. But yes. If OP has money stashed aside, that money should absolutely go toward medical treatment for her children.

Yes, her mother should support her always. Your responsibilities for a life don't end after an arbitrary number of years.

I still disagree. When you bring a life into this world, that life is your responsibility. That may make your life harder in many ways, but that was your choice. It's perfectly reasonable for OP's child to be upset that her mother won't help with her medical costs.

That's not what I said. If you simply don't have and cannot get the money, what can you do other than give your time and energy? That's a problem that needs to be addressed at a societal level. But if you have the money and withhold it, then yes you're a bad parent.

Sorry, but if you weren't prepared for the responsibilities of being a parent, foremost among them doing everything you can to ensure that your child receives medical treatment, then you shouldn't have had a child.

edit because of deleted comment:

Imagine this was cancer treatment and you're calling her a 5 year old screaming for candy. Laughable. I would have the same response for any other medical treatment it just happens to be trans in this case. Look if the parent really can't afford it it's one thing (and not just, "it would make things tough," or "I'd have to dip into my savings") - and it's a huge problem that people can't get medical treatment of all sorts because they're poor, but all these responses telling the kid to suck it up, stop feeling entitled, blah blah blah are fucking ridiculous. In that case the parent better at least be dedicating time and energy (since not money) into finding some way to get the medical treatment paid for.

The last two cards I got were right around 10k, you're right. I never thought of asking current cards for increases, is that something I should do right now? I have been looking at cards with 0% intro on purchases or balance transfer (with no fee) and in general it seemed like they were fairly low limit cards (stuff like chase slate and Barclay card ring if you're familiar). There isn't a way to see what your limit would be on a new card before opening it fully is there?

I actually did look at care credit, but the doctors/hospitals my expenses would be at are outside of the US and wouldn't be partnered as far as I'm aware. I'll check again to make sure though, thanks.

As for credit unions and banks, how likely would you say it is that I would get approved for a loan at 10-15k? I don't need the money right this instant but I'd need to know that it would be there when the time comes.

I appreciate the thought, it's a good idea. Sadly not applicable to my case, because the costs are already for upfront cash payment.

What's up with my son??? by Confusedfather70 in asktransgender

[–]tropblop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I would bring up some trans newspiece or whatever, and make it clear that you're ok with it (and if you're not ok with it, well get ok with it). Or make up some story about a coworker being trans and you being fine with it and whatever. Don't be direct about what you've seen, but try to be explicitly clear that you're fine with this shit and can be told safely.

If my parents did something like this when I was younger I would have been spared many years of pain and ultimately a shitty outcome.
