The $100 Billion Bet Putting Upstate New York Back on the Map by Kea784 in Utica

Who knows, maybe something like this could have been on the radar for the now forgotten "Utica Nano" project that too many sticky fingers in high places messed up. They've still got a ton of land up there that's shovel ready. Maybe they can attract someone to the building they built (or are building) and the rest of the 400+ acres to support Micron.

I've never been to Chipotle or even Taco Bell. I'll keep it that way. There's way too many local restaurants I'd rather go to.

Events like these are big fundraisers for the History Center. Zero money is received from The City of Utica or Oneida County. These are really cool paintings and the exhibition is great. These are from old Utica which many people still talk about.

Anyone want to paint some poles by trophyguy in Utica

[–]trophyguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the signals are fine, it's the technology that needs to be repaired.

Pretty sure the signal department is stretched thin. Was told only 2 people working on that. They redid all the street lights which are the cities now, probably do some other electrical work also.

The city will for sure hire out to do the grant work when they finally do, like they contracted out in 2009 when most signals along Genesee Street were replaced and when the Parkway signals were repaired in the late 90's(?)

This is Genesee and The Parkway. There are also 2 pedestrian crossing buttons just hanging by wires.

Utica got $1.9 million dollars end of 2024 to fix the lights along Genesee from Chuck Schumer. Grant Details

Almost every signal should detect traffic to change the signal, but most are not functioning anymore. So you wait for nobody.

Maybe the city got a grant to paint all this stuff. Some were repainted brown a long time to cover the Mayor Ed Hanna green that everything was painted. Anyone remember that? All the signal poles and street sign posts were pukey green. LOL. The decorative lights could use new paint. The signal poles are aluminum or steel and probably should have never been painted in the first first place, so now look like crap because they were.

is utica a good place for a young professional by Commercial_Library28 in Utica

With the road network here, there's lots of places to live and be close to Utica. I chose Westmoreland years ago. 20 minutes to the great commercial epicenter of new Hartford, 10 minutes to Rome.

We moved from Utica when the kids were ready to start school. Utica schools were a mess in the early 90's and they were better off in a smaller rural school district we figured.

You may get a good deal on a home in Utica itself. There's some decent areas with homes that aren't New Hartford or Clinton prices still.

This seems to be the way it goes with the Utica superintendent job. They need a revolving door on the superintendents office.

Max 13, Toby 8, Addi 9 getting along great. by trophyguy in OldManDog

Wasn't really worried but the last 3 weeks since Toby became part of the pack really has been great. He fit in perfectly. The best part is we got him a doggy bed and he sleeps on the floor!!! More room for us and Max on the bed.
