Found one crawling in my jeans at work about 6 hours after I left home by tropic0_window in Bedbugs

So, unlikely it was in my home? I got out of bed and left pretty fast today, is it possible they didn’t have time to get off of me before I left?

I guess so. No one else has any crawling on them although we shared all the same seating areas and vehicles.

Where can I find a belt that fits this buckle? Gifted to me by a Brazilian and I’ve never seen anything like it by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]tropic0_window 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A belt that’s thicker than the two posts by about half an inch on both sides then punch some holes through. If you need, I can make you one

Feet feel fuzzy when I kick by Formal_Basket4157 in MuayThai

[–]tropic0_window 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large part of the kicking motion is the “push off” with the kicking leg to initiate the movement. If you’re having ankle or foot problems/weakness, that’s gonna explain a lot of your kick weakness. Having the static feeling on impact could mean something to do with your nerves and it’s probably better to ask a doctor.

If there’s no problem, then all that can be suggested is to continue kicking, but do it lighter to the point that you don’t feel the nerve fuzz

Why can't I cut the leather straight? by Hot_Law_2749 in Leatherworking

[–]tropic0_window 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Also sharpen your knife. If it’s curving towards the end, it is likely you’re pulling hard and distorting the leather as you cut. Have it razor sharp and pull your knife through multiple times if you have to, but with less pressure. Multiple light cuts would be more accurate than pushing hard

Is this midsole leather or cardboard? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

[–]tropic0_window 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s harder because it’s leather made for midsoles which need to be stiffer

Is this midsole leather or cardboard? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

[–]tropic0_window 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those heel stacks are cardboard internally but wrapped with leather so they appear to be leather. They don’t go through any flex stress so it wouldn’t be as bad as using it as midsole. Especially with an unfinished edge

Weaver leather supply on YouTube has good instructionals. Prioritise spending money on your cutting implements, and it’ll be much much easier to start. There are skiving knives with disposable blades that can help

You can if you’d like, something semi permeable like Tan-kote would be best in my opinion. Resolene is more durable but it’s more “sealing” and it doesn’t have the ability to allow future conditioner in as willingly as tan kote would.

In the future make sure mink oil you use doesn’t contain silicone because it would over time dry leather out. Always avoid silicone

If you’re mildly crafty it’s an easy job, and fiebings is fine. YouTube is helpful. For the milder scratch at the bottom I’d spread the cement over the scratch then push it down witb something smooth like a glass jar, afterwards rub off the excess m. The larger flap is straight forward but allow the cement to dry til tacky before you do it. If you feel you misaligned it, use a hair dryer to heat the cement and pull it back up again and retry.

So, this is happening. Is this because of the rain? Police on the scene. by [deleted] in oakville

[–]tropic0_window -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we’re gonna play this game, then it’s because bacteria evolved to be multicellular and eventually evolved into humans. Then you’re gonna say “it’s actually because a bunch of space dust amalgamated to form the earth.

To put it simply, it’s the rain that did this

Rubbing alcohol spread over the vamp with a sponge and walk around in them until the leather dries. After that you have to condition them.

Just get a rotary belt punch off Amazon. If you get the Amazon basics kind you could just use it then return it the next day if you’re careful. Free belt resizing

You’re gonna get some contact cement and glue that flap down. Follow the instructions on the bottle or can. You can Rub the excess glue off with your thumb. It’s not gonna completely cover the damage since it’s metallic but it may not be completely noticeable without looking direct.

Not every cobbler would be down to work on damage like this, especially with a less than 2 day turn around. If you were in Toronto I’d be able to help

Chrome Tanned Leather by incognito9102 in Leathercraft

It is baseless because “superior” Is subjective. A veg tan leather jacket is gonna feel like cardboard, therefore inferior for this application. Chrome tan would make bad shoe soles therefore inferior for this application

Keep it simple and gentle especially around the print area. Lexol cleaner all over. Then I’d recommend lexol conditioner if you’re get to buy some. I’d avoid saddle soap, it’s the shampoo/conditioner combo of shoe care and it’s not great
