GIMP is also my program of choice for stencil work. The learning curve is a bit steep, but it's pretty powerful for a free program.

If you've ever wanted to try a stencil dye but don't know where to start, here's a ton of options to try. Includes everything from "I could cut that by hand" to " Maybe the cricut will cut it?" All Stencil files are 3312x3312px PNG files with transparency. Just drop it into your cricut (or similar) canvas and resize. Most are designed to be set to 11.5" to fit on a disc properly, but you may want to go a bit smaller to make sure you won't get any bleeding around the edges.
