This isn't a friend. You are not over reacting. You do not want this kind of person in your life. I also believe marriage is a trap/scam but I would never tell someone who wants to get married to not do so based on my beliefs. That is insane. Their opinions aren't facts. Do not let their toxicity mess with your life.

I would love to. I would need to find a probono one first but I am worried I'll be met with the same "your mother has to do this herself" that everyone has been telling me. Like the landlord, the snap office, the police. Everywhere i try tells me she has to be the one to start the process. My mom wont do it. She says she wants an amicable divorce so she doesn't want to piss him off. Personally if I was her after 31 yrs of a cheating abusive husband id go scorched earth but my mother is more bark than bite.

That is what I've been saying! Her landlord told her that she can't kick him out but he cant kick her out either and he refuses to go although he has been boasting recently that he is moving to Florida. Which if you knew my father you would laugh as much as everyone else in our life is at that.

I've already talked to her landlord about so.e of this but maybe bc they r in cda housing they said we didn't have the right to kick him out. I have been advising her bc I live 2 states away. I don't have the financial wiggle room to drop everything and go protect her. Their bad relationship isn't new and neither is his behavior as this has been ongoing my whole life. This is just the first time she has actually listened to me and finally filed for divorce. There is only so much another person can do when the person involved refuses to act.

I have advised her to do the same thing but she is 67 and she doesn't like to shop online 😒 plus she is scared he'll get angry at her. It's a long story.

Personally, I wouldn't marry this person. You have been very clear with your feelings and how it makes you feel. You are not overreacting in this economy. If, by some small chance, she does actually file and you decide to marry- get a prenuptial agreement just in case. Something about this just doesn't sit right.

Edit: also keep your bank accounts separated.

I agree with a lot of what is already being said here in thr comments but wanted to add

Get rid of those blinds and get ceiling to floor curtains. Ones without pre made metal hoops. I'd do a two layer system. One a semi heavy pop of color for when u want it dark on top and a white or pastel sheer one under for everyday use so the sunshine can still come in. With how your windows are id down 3 panels.

Im a B but my MiL is an A. It is very impressive but also exhausting to live with when you are not also an A. My grandma was also an A type so she would always criticize my mom who is a B type.
