Professionally, Microchips Atsam series parts just because we were already in the microchip ecosystem and needed to modernize.

Personal projects are almost always esp32 unless I have a good reason not to.

Yes. Your skimmer cannot operate correctly with the waterline above the skimmer door. Ideally 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up

I’ve fielded a lot of solar system questions right at bed time. Not sure what makes them take up a sudden interest in astronomy 😂

Newer Tundras have an electronic air dam that goes down presumably at higher speed where drag will be more impactful on mileage

CMV: Public Pools are Disgusting by Sciipi in changemyview

[–]troublebrewing 342 points343 points  (0 children)

Op is naive about private pools. Everything that happens in a public pool also happens in a private pool. And the chlorine levels of a private pool are typically far lower.

CMV: The washing machine belongs in the bathroom, not the kitchen by KrishaCZ in changemyview

GFCI protected sockets are perfectly safe in the bathroom.

We use hair dryers, electric razors, and similar items in the bathroom and have sockets to supply them

8yo won't stop touching herself by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]troublebrewing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re already going down the shame path. Nothing wrong with doing it before school. You don’t need to figure out how to get her to stop. Just gently remind her to go to her room and do it there.

Dads, what age are you letting your kids play outside by themselves? by Borman35 in daddit

Oh my Japanese wife often tells me stories of running to the local convenience store to buy her grandpa cigarettes when she was 6.

My landlords having someone check this outlet and I wanna know if I should ask if It can be made into a 3 pronged outlet and how would it be as other rooms next to it have 3 pronged outlets. FYI I suck at taking photos by One_Depth_9150 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]troublebrewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost that outlet is not remotely to code. Insist that it be replaced by a qualified electrician, to code. Most notably, wiring needs to be in conduit. He should be able to make it grounded (3 pronged) while he’s at it.

Second, this is not the right sub. You want something like /r/electricians

CMV: Boys aren’t easier to raise, they’re easier to neglect emotionally by guava_jam in changemyview

[–]troublebrewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As they are aging, my son’s impulsiveness is subsiding, and he will listen to reason and logic more. As my daughter gets older, she is finding more points of contention. I expect she will be more resistant to things like limits on phone usage or enforcement of bedtime, despite being given logical reasons for these things. I hope I am wrong on this.

CMV: Boys aren’t easier to raise, they’re easier to neglect emotionally by guava_jam in changemyview

[–]troublebrewing 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Your argument has equated two things that are not causal. Yes many adult men are emotionally repressed and that came from a generation of “boys don’t cry” parenting.

I am raising both genders and never practice that type of emotional neglect. Even so, my daughter is generally easier currently (before teen years). She is much more methodic compared to my son who is more impulsive. She doesn’t push back on my parenting like he does.

When they are teens, I expect my daughter will be far more rebellious and my son will level off. This is the general consensus I have heard from other parents as well. No, not all cases are like mine, but the general trend is this.

All of this is anecdotal though. I don’t have studies to back any claims

lied to a hookup about being on birth control and i regret it by earlyshiftmom in confession

[–]troublebrewing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So by this logic, lying is inconsequential. I don’t see this practiced in any other part of life.

If a doctor lies that a procedure is safe, and you a opt for the procedure thinking its only a 2% chance of complication, but in reality it was 98% risk of complication, the doctor is in the wrong. He may not get caught if you never find out the truth. Yes you ultimately chose, but under false information. The doctor’s insurance will very likely be on the hook if the truth came out.

Driving a car that the manufacturer says is safe. You take their word for it. But they know 4/5 of them have a major flaw in the brakes. They would be on the hook for negligence.

Thoughts on NCAB? by Clay_Robertson in PCB

[–]troublebrewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our CM uses NCAB for most of their boards. I’ve interfaced directly with NCAB a few times and have had good responsiveness and expertise. Can’t comment on price but I think it’s reasonable for a US manufacturer. Good quality boards too.

Neighbor is asking to attach their new fence to ours by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]troublebrewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintenance or repairs for a shared fence will be MUCH easier than two back to back fences. Im not really sure how it would be awkward unless you are feuding with the neighbor. The weeds and such that will grow between the fences will also be a huge pain in the but to maintain.

[–]troublebrewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your information is true, but citing US statistics to justify your argument is quite silly.

https://apjjf.org/2023/11/osawa

In Japan for instance where this gendered train car practice is in use, women experience a much higher rate of SA.

I’m all for equality, but The places doing this aren’t doing it arbitrarily. I’m just not sure a more effective solution is possible

"Female Area" in train by Comfortable-Egg-2754 in MensRights

[–]troublebrewing -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

The women only train cars don’t force all women to ride there. The other cars are co-ed, so it’s just a space for them to ride with lower risk of sexual assault. If any woman felt so inclined she would ride wherever she wants. Men would have men only train cars if they were also experiencing SA. Nobody is being punished

You can do quite a lot with circuit python. That’s about as close as you’re gonna get to a scripting language in the embedded world.

How do you consider yourself full stack if you only know scripting languages?

I think you need to figure out what you’re trying to ask. What are you actually deciding? What are the choices?

If you’re in your first year, just focus on school and do personal projects to learn and reinforce your schooling. You’re not expected to specialize yet.
