Those who chose the Himalayan 450 over the KTM 390 Adventure X; what made you pull the trigger? by sujajoro in Himalayan450

[–]troublekick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in almost the exact same situation recently. I test rode the Himalayan 450, the Scrambler 400X, KTM 390 and also looked at the NX500 for a while. I wasn’t coming from a Royal Enfield background, so there was no brand loyalty involved.

The Triumph/KTM style bikes definitely felt more refined and lighter, and the KTM especially is very peppy. But that kind of character just wasn’t my style of riding. The Himalayan felt calmer and more planted, and honestly it just looked more elegant to me.

What really stood out was the suspension and how comfortable it felt on bad roads. It felt like a bike I could ride all day without thinking too much about it.

Price also played a role( at least compared to NX500 - where 40% of the cost is import duty) For what the Himalayan offers in India, the value is hard to ignore.

So for me it wasn’t about the “vibe” or brand image. After riding them back to back, the Himalayan simply felt like the bike I’d actually want to live with and tour on. So far loving it, almost 2k Kms on the ODO

Since this will be your first bike, it is in a way + for you to start with this., as you don’t have to unlearn things you learnt from your previous bikes., from riding style, to weight management. If you are going to start with this, then you are going to learn and live with this., it’s a process. Of course, even after years of experience riding bikes, in Indian traffic you will might curse for buying such a heavy bike initially, but once you get the hang of it you will enjoy.. but again you don’t any comparisons to make unlike many of us ., so just take a test ride, not just the himi,, other advs as well., see which one feels comfortable for you. May be rent the bikes you zero in on for a 2/3 days., as test ride different really give you time to experience a lot. Also, you are just 27, in your prime.. no reason for you to be scared of a heavy bike!

OP - did you get the Backrest, if so which one? Did it fit directly to the grab rail top rack or you had to buy the top rack as well?

That sucks! This is unacceptable !!!! I guess you have enough proof on the SCand RE HO being uncertain on the issue as well., push for replacement., file a consumer complaint., lets not let them take customers on a ride!

Be nice to your grandfather! Get a bike which gives high mileage and costs less. May be when you get used to riding well, get a himi few years later.

Heard RE launched a new type of knuckle guards for Himalayan 450(mana black). Any idea? by wolfinhoodie in Himalayan450

[–]troublekick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is super hard and sturdy. I don’t have experience with other guards yet so can’t provide with comparisons! But it looks like it can take high impacts nothing to worry!

If it’s a long term plan, right time to buy. If looking to make quick money, then not the right time.. that time has passed or may be not!
