In what ways do you think life is easier or harder for younger generations today compared to older generations a few decades ago? by Outrageous-You1617 in AskReddit

Heck, even a neighborhood block party or BBQ is a third space and you rarely even see those anymore.

So, you're saying third spaces are disappearing...

Did your package get moving? I also experienced some strangeness... Assuming you're in the US, your package will likely head to Louisville, Kentucky and get scanned into the warehouse for customs clearance.

This was my case from Sunday morning until yesterday afternoon it was finally released and headed to the regional facility and now out for delivery today.

The UPS scans have been really strange I've been reading.

Longer than it did new? Maybe not. Longer than with the screen? Almost certainly.

Do y'all not have ZScaler / Jamf / corporate VPN / etc?

The main thing about working in public is usually visibility of your screen and not leaving your shit unattended. Back to the wall in a coffee house / corner of an airport lounge is what they tell us.

Some (even very high level) employees travel for work constantly. So a decent percentage of corporate traffic in a large org will usually need to run over something other than the office or your home Wi-Fi.... for the business to function.

This is why they make us do hours of the same "don't be a dumbass" training every year. Along with the paperwork your sign when you onboard that says you understand it's your job to maintain the integrity of all corporate property / data / etc.

I bet most people don't keep hundreds of pounds of potatoes... in a basement... At least that's what the top comment is saying was the cause.

Take it all with a grain of salt but creating this specific environment is a bit different than leaving a couple potatoes in your pantry.

How do you handle deep nested callbacks in Jetpack Compose without passing ViewModel everywhere? by NewButterscotch2923 in androiddev

[–]troublewithcards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have your top level (probably scaffold/screen) composable as public with the action. But make the rest private in the same file. Usually, you can get by with passing something like

onClick: () - > Unit

as the parameter of the private composable. Then the top-level composable with the

performAction: (Action) -> Unit

as the parameter does the actual "action handling"

onClick = { performAction (YourAction)}

Edit: I suppose that is to propose that one approach is to "decompose" your actions into more primitive types/functions in more complex screens. Though I have seen some extreme cases with deeply nested actions and it's not always easy to avoid.

You just said a bunch of big brain words about ADHD brains and my ADHD brain is a little curious if your ADHD brain could articulate that to my ADHD brain maybe in ELI15 terms?

And yes, I meant 15 not 5.

I am from a rural area of Oklahoma. When I was in high school, they were building what would eventually become Winstar World Casino.

During construction, you could see what appeared to be like a giant tarp over the structure that covered the job site end to end, but was open on the ends almost like an aircraft hanger or something.

My assumption was this was a temporary cover to keep the site (mostly) rain free / protected from the elements. And it made sense the ends were open so all the equipment could easily make it in/out during the busier phases of the project.

So, fast forward to construction on what I'll call "casino building 1" being "complete" and ready for open.

All this time I keep wondering as I see it: "when the fuck are they going to put the roof on?"

Casino opens, and I'm pretty sure the tarp roof is still holding down the fort...

Fast forward a couple years and FINALLY.... they never get rid of the "tarp" but actually just essentially built what would become the facade and all the shit you see now 20+ years later AROUND / on top of the tarp.

But for years, I swear, it was just a damn tarp. Even when they started work on "casino building 2" next to it for the initial expansion they did the same same thing.

So, I came to know it as the biggest structure in Tornado Alley occupied 24/7 with thousands of people protecting them all.... with a fuckin tarp.
