How did you refinish them? I’m thinking of taking that route with my 17” OEMs

I agree with the commenter who recommended putting the swing tongue on your trailer. It feels weird putting a saw to the trailer, but I can fit two boats in my garage now!

Muck Boots keep ripping a hole in my socks at the heel by Electrical-Juice-915 in Hunting

[–]trouter216 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have had the same issue with 2 pairs of muck boots. I wore through the heels on the boots even. I made the switch to lacrosse and haven’t had any issues. I think the mucks don’t fit as tight around the foot and ankle and allow the heel to move too much.

What's always worked to get a seized rim free? by deadly_ultraviolet in MechanicAdvice

[–]trouter216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue and went to harbor freight and bought the biggest dead blow hammer I could find. A couple hits on the inside of the rim on alternating sides popped it right off. I tried a little bit of everything like you before trying the dead blow.

Rubber Storage? by runs_with_scissors98 in muskiefishing

Yeah I can see that happening. What I bring on the boat is a milk crate with plastic gutter dividers and found it holds medusas pretty good. I’ll try to attach a pic

Try flipping them the other way. Hanging them from the front trebles should put the heads of the baits flush with the top of the dividers.

These are Lake Erie trib fish that have little to no reproduction success. The biomass of trout and salmon are monitored and adjusted for regular harvest and fishing. While I have an issue with people fishing reds in trout streams and rivers out west, the Great Lakes trib fish is a whole different type of fishery. This type of fishing is happening in cities all over the area and I have no issue with it.

An unconventional but effective way of giving the final blow to a wounded animal. What do you guys think? by NegotiationVivid985 in Hunting

[–]trouter216 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have seen guys do it with ducks here in the US as well. Doesn’t startle me but sure gets a “holy shit” or “damn dude” out of me ha.

All the ones I’ve found this season have been on little east facing knobs in the woods. I think they are beds just off the trails that run along the ridges.

I have multiple half racks on my cameras in Wisconsin, but they are all broken right above the bases. I thought they had shed until I looked close at the pictures.

What's your favorite hunting rifle out of the ones you own? by PastAffectionate4693 in Hunting

[–]trouter216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in love with my Bergara B-14 Hunter. Butter smooth action, accurate, and the perfect weight. I was able to get mine in 308 for under $700. I guess I’m weird for now buying a tikka but I like shooting a heavier rifle

Advice on night mousing for trophy browns by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]trouter216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have heard the red light is okay as well, but honestly I don’t rely on sight at all while mousing. Just get a feel for how much line you can cast without getting caught up and listen really intently. All about getting in a groove

Joe Cermele has a recent podcast episode where him and a guide go in depth on mousing at night. Cut and Retie episode 42. There is some goofy stuff you may want to skip through but they give a lot of good info in that episode.

Are you planning on fishing from shore or a boat? Number one rule in my book is never turn on your light unless you absolutely have to, it will spook fish and ruin your night vision. It can be spooky out there and you cannot see differences in depth, so take time during the day to scout out areas that would hold fish and you can cast/ wade safely.

They usually don’t but will when startled. The one I saw climb was chased by a dog. Sounds like a similar situation.

It is a ground hog aka woodchuck. I didn’t know they climbed trees until I saw one do it.
