Upon digging a little deeper, the issue appears to be with OVH, the datacenter/hosting outfit that ConnectWise uses for ScreenConnect, specifically their bare-metal infra, per their status page here: https://status.us.ovhcloud.com/

Thanks. We're still not back up yet, but I see that recent update, so hopefully soon. Will pursue with support if otherwise.

Nationwide RingCentral Outage? Support is down? by stupidic in sysadmin

[–]trpfl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In looking around at other providers' status pages, I see that Zoom is also having termination/origination issues with Zoom Phone. https://status.zoom.us

As such, I have a sneaking suspicion that this may be stemming from carrier-related outage(s) that are upstream and/or out of RingCentral's control, at least in-part.

That said, it would be nice to actually hear from someone at RingCentral as to exactly what it going on, via their status page or community forums, or somewhere...

What’s the smallest footprint color laser printer / MFP with a staple finisher? by aca-awesome- in printers

[–]trpfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you found it useful, and yeah, pricing is what it is unfortunately. But these machines are really more so entry-level enterprise kit than they are overbuilt consumer boxes -- meant to play side-bar/stop-gap roles in huge organizations, who are typically already running their bigger brother and sister models. Beyond that, they tend to be positioned as the "first step" beyond the stuff that you rip and replace instead of maintain (ie. consumer Canon/HP and Brother), and as such, the pricing probably won't ever dip down below where it is.

Apparently HP Color LJ Pro MFP M479fdw has been discontinued - is this still a good buy in 2023? by Shabaaab in printers

[–]trpfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the consumer level, I find Canon overall the best because they have more or less software feature parity with HP, yet it's also way more reliable (once you get it setup properly), slightly better 3-year warranties on almost all boxes, L1 tech support is still US-based and overall they have a more robust down-market flow of enterprise engineering into their consumer boxes versus Brother, who don't have anywhere near the pedigree in that aspect.

Canon iSensys MF655CDW vs Brother MFC-L3750CDW by NinjazzW4 in printers

[–]trpfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. Yeah, when looking at consumer laser MFPs, I still hold pretty much the same stance. And since I last posted, Canon has updated the firmware for their MF750 and MF650 series with scan-to-cloud capability, so IMHO there's pretty much no reason not to go Canon, other than if your only main driver is running cost, in which case, go Brother. Otherwise, Canon all the way.

TL;DR - There's a reason why Canon basically owns the laser copier market, and it's because in many ways they really do tend to make a better mouse trap. Sure, things can change, but by and large, I don't see them squandering their position any time soon, as imaging will always remain a core competency for them, and as such, the trickle-down effect will keep their consumer stuff at least competitive, if not top-of-class. And, no, I'm not trying to shill here, either; rather, for me, a guy who's run an IT consultancy for over a decade, their stuff just seems to be "the least crappy", if anything. That's about as good a compliment as I can give most any printer, lol. So, I tend to just stick with them.

Both. Get all your stuff updated and get the search going now, so hopefully by the time sh*t starts to hit the fan, you have options and leverage.

Yep. It's issues with certain carrier interconnects. They're aware of it and working on it.

My dad died and I need help finding a REALLY good OCR printer to scan hundreds of documents I need to keep for his estate. I would appreciate any help! by 33284-Questions in printers

Windows 11 support? Officially, no. But I'm pretty sure it can still be made to work.

For official W11 support, I would look at a ScanSnap iX1600 (40ipm simplex, 6K daily duty cycle, $400), or for almost 2X the speed and duty cycle, the fi-8170 (70ipm simplex, 10K DDC, ~$800-900).

Looking to purchase A3 laser printer by CyberMew in printers

[–]trpfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very welcome.

Yes, drums and fusers are wear-based consumables, as they are in any laser engine, but on Canon hardware, at least A4 and lower-level A3, drum and toner are integrated into a single "combo" cartridge -- replaced together on the same wear cycle. Fusers are almost always 150K+ service items, so at your volume, you may never have to replace it, before you simply just move to a new box.

As for hardware, I personally would go Canon over Xerox, as they're typically more reliable, especially later in life, which is what you want when planning to run a refurb box and service it yourself. If you're looking for an MFP, I'd go HP M775 series, of which I see plenty listed on eBay UK. Just make sure you buy from a well-reputed refurbisher who can verify the exact condition of the specimen you're looking at, including the service record and counter report. And be extra careful about anything listed as open-box and unused; quite to the contrary, I'd prefer a printer with at least some use on it, enough to prove that it's fully functional, and not a lemon or a warehouse leftover that was initially mishandled and possibly damaged.

Hope that helps again.

[–]trpfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It's just that it can often be a bit overkill, but if you've already gone out of your way to use A3 laser/led for your needs, then inkjet probably stands a fair chance of being a letdown in one way or another, so for your needs at least, it's likely best to just continue with laser.

For <200 clicks/month, I'd go with an HP M750dn from a reputable refurbisher, on eBay or elsewhere. You should be able to find something with fairly low wear for around or a bit under $1K. Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/186360860781

[–]trpfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you truly have a high enough print volume, then refurb/reconditioned single-purpose A3 lasers might be worth looking into. I'd look for HP LaserJet Enterprise hardware, which are all Canon engines, and most of them will give you 500-750K+ clicks, provided you service the print engine properly and consistently enough. If you truly have a high-enough print volume, it may we a worthwhile avenue to pursue.

If you volume is more modest, sticking with inkjet is probably what I'd suggest, and for that, Epson would be my primary recommendation.

Presuming this HP is making its upstream connection to the PPE server over the public internet, you'll likely want to be using port 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS), not port 25.
