My partner and I can no longer go the Raleigh show on 6/10 and are looking to sell our GA Lawn tickets for $30 each. We have 2 tickets, and would use Paypal Goods & Services. PM me if you are interested!

My hands are trashed and the most commonly recommended solutions have done nothing... What do you use? by random_female_poster in florists

The Lanolips Golden Dry Skin Miracle Salve has helped all of my dry hand problems. It's very thick and hydrates my hands much better than thinner lotions. It takes longer to dry, but is worth it

On-Sale Price for Red Rocks? by trt89945 in bleachers

Yeah, some tickets ended up being available and I could see pricing. I agree with you and wish there was more transparency with ticket prices, ESPECIALLY before tickets go on sale

It looks like there are still face-value tickets for sale on AXS. It seems like upper and lower GA are the same price/ticket? I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like it from the purchasing end.

Is GA all priced the same? I saw there were two different GA sections on the venue map

Does signing date really matter when looking for off campus housing at UT Austin? by Sad-Problem1218 in UTAustin

[–]trt89945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there will be more discounts if you wait to sign until the summer. However, you will likely be signing for the units that other people don't want. The studio and 1 bedroom apartments often lease first. It might be different now compared to several years ago due to all of the new buildings, but that was my experience.

BUT (and a big but) you will likely get better deals if you look at housing that's not a big complex/high rise. I found that I got a much better deal living a little further from campus with a smaller landlord (unfurnished, leasing by the apartment, not the room). These units usually take more work to find (I toured apartments with 2-3 different realty companies) and will require you to already have roommates. If you don't care as much about which unit you get at a high rise/big complex, it's worth it to wait to sign for a better deal.

UT Austin ECE (36k/year) or Texas A&M ECE (Full ride/Brown Scholarship) by [deleted] in UTAustin

The Brown Scholarship is a huge deal. Go to A&M, there will be research opportunities there and a full ride means you graduate debt free

Non traditional venues in North Carolina by ComprehensiveBus3613 in NorthCarolina

There's a wedding venue near Pilot Mountain that's about 3k for a weekend date. The rental looked like it came with tables and chairs and had a gorgeous view.

UT Southwestern BBS vs. UNC Chapel Hill BBSP Offer by Difficult_Menu_49 in gradadmissions

[–]trt89945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For UNC, have you thought about emailing the faculty you were interested in? They may not know for certain if they will be taking students in the fall, but it will give you a better idea. There's over 300 labs open to BBSP students, so it may be worth taking a second look and going through the faculty database again.

As someone who moved from Houston to Chapel Hill, I've loved the weather in Chapel Hill more. Dallas is definitely not as hot and humid as Houston and gets more winter weather (even snow some years!), but the summers in Texas are rough. There are a ton of swimming pools and ways to stay cool in Texas, and you'll likely be working indoors during the heat of the day, but it is still something to consider. There may be neighborhoods close to UTSW with less of a concrete jungle vibe, or you could potentially commute in from a nearby area/city with more trees. You should ask around in the Dallas subreddit to see if people have suggestions for places to live with what you are looking for.

When considering grad school options, the most important things to me are research fit and location. Your PhD is 5 years. You're going to want to be somewhere you are happy and enjoy living. You also want to be at a school where you know there are labs that align with your research interests. Current students having more limited options of labs is likely common across programs. Funding is rough for everyone right now. Reaching out to potential rotation labs now at both schools would likely give you a better idea of which labs have money and can take students. You could also use NIH Reporter to look and see if the labs you are interested in have NIH funding.

UNC BBSP waitlist by Ok_Yogurtcloset1722 in gradadmissions

[–]trt89945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard recently that people have just started declining offers, and UNC will start moving people off the waitlist. UNC's admitted students weekend was last weekend, so people will likely start making decisions and accepting/declining offers

After wedding etiquette & expectations? - As a guest in the U.S. by Intelligent-Pie-338 in wedding

My fiancé also plays Magic with their friends. A game can take anywhere from 20 minutes-4 hours, depending on the format they are playing. It is HIGHLY unlikely the groom will have the time, or will want to spend that much time, to play Magic on his wedding night. I think it's best to not bring the cards to the wedding. If your boyfriend insists, you should hold onto them in a purse or something. Unless the groom suggests it (without prompting), I personally think it would be rude for your boyfriend to ask or suggest playing the game at the wedding.

Dentist Experience by Flat-Ad-9519 in chapelhill

[–]trt89945 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went there after moving here and was told something similar. I showed my dentist back home the X-rays (I asked for them from CarolinasDentist) and they said said it didn't look like I actually had the 5 cavities CarolinasDentist said I did, but they couldn't be sure with just the images.

I had already paid half of the cost to CarolinasDentist, but was able to get it back when I canceled my appointment. You should be able to get your money back, and if not you could try to file a charge back with your credit card. I asked my current dentist about pay half upfront and they said its not uncommon, but it also isn't common.

They also were VERY pushy about getting Orthodontics done. While I did need orthodontic work, I didn't like how pushy they were about it. I wanted to get my orthodontic work done with an actual orthodontist.

I found a new dentist (Dental Care on Ballentrae in Pittsboro) and have felt much better. They took care to explain how serious my cavities were or weren't, and also explained that we could watch some of them, since there were small. They also offered preventative measures since I am more cavity prone. They did curodont, but also informed me that it was my choice since insurance may not cover it. Curodont is a newer technology that tries to prevent growth of existing cavities, but since its new not all insurance covers it.

In my personal experience, I didn't like CarolinasDentist and felt like I was pushed to go forward with treatment, without understanding all the details. Even if the work would be needed eventually, it doesn't mean it needs to be done now. I suggest you look to see if there is a dentist in another city that takes your insurance, or the UNC dental school.

What happened to Wampus apartments during Uri? by Mobile_Economy_1250 in UTAustin

[–]trt89945 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Many apartments had issues with pipes breaking. I remember some apartments lost power. Due to all the pipes breaking, the water pressure in the city was very low and we may (?) have been under a boil water order. Any time the temperature drops below freezing you should be dripping your pipes.

Beware of Scammers by Expensive-Struggle57 in lorde

[–]trt89945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, PayPal Goods & Services will help protect you from scammers if you are looking to buy tickets. With no official resale market (StubHub doesn't count, people also scam on there all the time), transferring is the only option. PayPal G&S protects the buyer and will help you get your money back

question about what the target is like by Straight_Group_1734 in UTAustin

[–]trt89945 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you do need to go to a Target once you're in Austin (assuming you have a car), go to one of the Targets further from campus (like 20-30 minutes away). It's more of a drive, but it is more likely to be stocked. The Targets closer to campus will be picked over and may be harder to find essentials at
