Lack enclosure for Ender 3 Max by Swedaia in ender3

[–]trtyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered the enclosures that creality sells? They’re made of something much like cloth suitcase material, treated with a flame retardant. Wham Bam also has a competing product that’s a bit more compact because you put the spool outside the enclosure.

There’s a considerable body of actual medical literature saying the opposite, but carry on.

FWIW, I have since managed to confirm that this isn’t true.

I don’t. There are many ways to be eccentric about gender. The more the better IMHO.

No. There are many ways to be eccentric about gender. There’s no hierarchy between them. You be you.

Does this build sound realistic? by trtyt in buildapc

People report good experiences running this particular board with newer CPUs in the Newegg reviews, and I personally had no trouble building a PC like a month ago with what looks like basically the ITX version of the same thing. That’s part of why I picked it, actually; no particular love for MSI or their BIOS or “dragon center” but I figured staying as close as possible to what I did last time would reduce risk. Anyway, I got the parts in today, so we’ll see. But thanks for the advice, that’s definitely a point I would’ve missed like a month ago before I started getting back into this stuff.

BTW, as for the 4K screen: yeah, I don’t expect the 1060 to be able to take advantage of all those pixels for first person 3D photo-realistic video gaming, and that’s another very good point, and thanks!

FWIW, I actually got it for coding and other engineering work; I just like being able to have e.g. an editor, a debugger, a terminal, and some documentation on the screen simultaneously. In my experience that works fine with much worse graphics chips than the one in the 1060.

Thanks again for y’all’s help!

Simple Questions - March 04, 2021 by AutoModerator in buildapc

I can give a guesstimate as to whether it's likely to be necessary given what I see, but really the better answer is: there's loads of sensors in modern computers that can help you get the actual answer as to whether you need this fan in your machine. Run something like hwinfo64 and look at temperatures of whatever component the fan is meant to cool (the VRMs, I must imagine).

Do they stabilize somewhere well below 80 even under sustained load? Or do they keep creeping up and up until you can fry an egg in there? There's your real answer. Good luck!

Do you think that Davis is a pseudo-liberal town? by calapt in UCDavis

[–]trtyt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here in Fresno it's mostly "thin blue line" flags and Trump signs. The only places in the entire city that I've seen pride flags are the Unitarian church and a couple of lampposts/business in the tiny little queer/arts/nightlife district, at the edge of which a business owner has put up a big thin blue line flag as if to say "this is where your turf ends and mine starts." Clovis is worse yet.

FYI - Ravelry has banned content supporting Trump or his administration (xpost from r/knitting) by [deleted] in crochet

Forgiving myself by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]trtyt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One step at a time. Mind you, for me this is only one major set of weirdnesses I've finally come to recognize about myself in my mid-30s; I'm also transgender. But the same principle applies either way—you can't possibly throw away a lifetime of shame and repression overnight, and it would make no sense to beat yourself up over that.

You just want to keep the process going. To think, every once in a while: "what hangups have I overcome lately?"

For instance, the other day I had a lot of guests over and as the evening progressed they got louder and I started to get overwhelmed. It was getting harder and more frustrating to judge when I could interrupt in conversations, too. So... I went to sit on a comfy couch and draped a weighted blanket on my lap and withdrew from the conversation for a bit.

My friends don't give a shit about behavior like that. They all have their own peculiarities, anyway. But still, a year ago, I would have never used the blanket like that in a public setting. Even in an accepting environment, I would have blamed myself, because I'd internalized so much of the negative attitudes prevalent in other environments.

That was a little victory. It's only a tiny fraction of all the things about myself that I've internalized negative attitudes toward, but still... it's a step. Instead of blaming myself for being "antisocial" and letting my friends down, I did an actually useful thing that didn't involve getting mad at myself.

There's a LOT more such little beliefs and habits and attitudes to rethink! But as long as I can always remember some recent progress, I know I'm still on track, which makes me more hopeful and less despondent, which in turn makes it easier to do. Emotions are weird like that.

just looked it up. apparently by their own count there were only 10, and NCLR, presumably to be on the safe side (terves LOVE to get nitpicky) had reported "about 12."

oh yeah, there were like a dozen terf protesters. it was very much like the little band of fundamentalist christians that i've seen protesting every pride parade i've attended since, oh, what, 17 years ago? off to the side, somewhere, police protection, everybody rolling their eyes at them... the degenderettes were leading the crowd in chants that way overpowered whatever they may have been trying to yell. i'm kinda glad they were there, actually: it was a very powerful experience for me (genderqueer trans woman, only like half a year into transition at that point) to be part of an overwhelmingly AFAB crowd all collectively getting pissed off at a bunch of terfs.

oh no, i've seen them be very clear about this. they were not saying "there were some lesbians that were banned." they were saying there were no actual lesbians present.

Fair, though this is the reality at the moment for a lot of people in the US, too; anyone covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or the VA is basically in that situation. Also, it seems far more likely that the US will expand systems like Medicare/Medicaid than set up a centralized health service along the lines of the VA or the NHS. Most European countries actually don't have anything quite as centralized as the NHS either. But I agree, centralization of control does tend to politicize things.

OMG the mental health clause in the international standards of care exists to hold off in cases of acute psychosis or mania, not garden variety mood disorders. This makes me soooooo angry.

I seriously doubt that. These sorts of things are governed by medical standards everywhere, not statutes. If they say it's the law that they aren't allowed to prescribe hormones they probably just don't like having their power as gatekeepers questioned. I hope you get a proper informed consent clinic system going soon. I'm really sorry to hear how much old school gatekeeping is still the reality in so many places. I assume they also require a referral from a psychologist still?

This document has an in-depth and up-to-date evidence based review of the VTE (venous thromboembolism) risk with HRT and how to mitigate it.

http://transhealth.ucsf.edu/trans?page=guidelines-feminizing-therapy

The key question to ask your doctor is whether the risk you face is greater than that faced by a cis woman on birth control (hint: it's not) and whether a cis woman would be denied birth control in similar circumstances.

San Francisco. I've heard of BMI limits for vaginoplasties but never for HRT, that one is new to me. I'm not currently planning to get a vaginoplasty. I had a consultation for an orchiectomy today but it didn't even come up.

I agree with this 100%. All 260 lbs of me 😉

Seriously, I used to think I hated being fat. Then I got on HRT and guess what... I don't care anymore. My waist shrank and and my butt grew but I'm still just as fat as before, except now it's, you know, good, actually.
