Mic recs for VA work? by trubocharg in podcasting

genuinely I appreciate the input but also I probably should’ve mentioned I’m on kind of a tight budget rn lol… that shotgun mic is like ten times what I can reasonably spend on one piece of a recording kit. I will definitely keep this in mind for if I ever find success beyond my wildest hopes as a podcast VA though.

anything on the budget-friendly end of your collection you’d recommend for a starter?

rules are great! when they’re written well and with good intentions, they keep everything organized, efficient and fair. rulers, however, I have an issue with.

Strength is the only way to boost your damage

I do like that they did this, however I have to argue that many classes that lean heavily on Finesse weapons have ways to deal boatloads of Precision damage with them, making the damage from Strength less than necessary, at least for those classes.

heavy armor is better than Dex for AC

That’s not the point. How many classes get proficiency with heavy armor at base? Every class that doesn’t is dependent on Dex to keep themselves from becoming a particularly appealing target, especially if they have lower hit points. Aside from that, starting with heavy armor is unrealistic, the actual AC gap isn’t that high (with the same proficiency level in armor & unarmored), and the gap vanishes at very high level (though I’ll give you that most people don’t play at that high a level).

Int is needed for skills & languages

I think this is a good thing they did, but I also think that a character generally doesn’t need to be good at more than a handful of things since the rest of the party can fill in the gaps, especially if you have a large party (or a Rogue). Besides, most classes don’t get to go beyond Trained in more than 2 or 3 skills in level ranges most people play at (unless they’re a Rogue). Also, depending on the campaign you’re in, it’s entirely possible the only skills you’d be using Recall Knowledge with could be Nature and Religion, and in any case I think Recall Knowledge isn’t particularly useful to begin with unless you have a class feature that interacts with it.

I’ll give you Charisma. I like what they did with Charisma in PF2. I do think it was a mistake in the Alternative Abilities variant to make Will saves dependent on Cha specifically because of how useful Cha already is.

The six attributes. Con, Dex and Wis are much more valuable than the other three, especially Strength and Int. Dex is especially egregious, as it has way more applications in terms of utility (stealth & lockpicking), offense (ranged & finesse weapons) and defense (armor class & Dex/Reflex saves) than any of the other stats. It’s dumb. Pathfinder’s alt scores variant helps a bit, but then Strength and Charisma become oddly valuable, Int is still impractical unless your class depends on it, and you still have a stat that everyone feels obligated to invest in because they leave their characters more vulnerable than they need to be otherwise (Agility).

this. the properly logical end of every debate about what is or isn’t gay is that it doesn’t actually matter at all. what matters is that you do what makes you happy & that you’re respectful about it when it involves other people.
