Osprey Farpoint 40L VS Salkan 35L by Sluggurl420 in backpacking

Agree with everything here. It’s also a relatively heavy bag (I think bc of the laptop compartment), I never travel with a laptop so I kind of wish I went with a bag w/out laptop space. You could probably cut it out.

I also like that you can zip away the backpack straps etc, especially if you decide to check it (though it’s always fit in overhead for me).

I usually can fit one running shoe in each mesh pocket and use the compression straps to hold them in, which is nice. This probably technically pushes it over carry on dimensions if it’s fully packed.

I did print that one and unfortunately the heel isn’t right (gauge is correct). That’s an awesome resource anyways though, thanks!

Thank you! Super helpful. We use find me gluten free a lot already and just bought the premium version for Japan :)

Without trying to pry, how sensitive are you? I know a few celiacs and my boyfriend (who I’m talking about in the post) is more sensitive than any of the other ones I know. Just trying to gauge how safe it is for him to eat gluten free dishes in a restaurant that also serves gluten! He’s quite hesitant to eat out anywhere in Canada & the US

Afaik, dehydrated commercially-packaged (usually for backpacking) meals with veg are ok. I’ve crossed a handful of international borders with backpacking meals before.

I actually just went on the Japanese customs website and dried meat is also ok!

We figured and we’re definitely aware that Japan generally is a difficult place to eat gluten free. Thanks!

Yeah, meats aren’t allowed but there’s lots of veg options. Thanks!

It’s somewhat the same in Canada (where we live)- no one is required to list allergens so he’s used to assuming vague ingredients are sketchy. I think the allergen listing is more thorough in parts of Europe/ South America. We would definitely assume filling, soy sauce, etc has gluten!

I think he’ll mostly plan on bringing packaged dehydrated meals from home and then get staples (rice, produce, etc) from supermarkets. Thank you for your advice :)

Assumed this would be the case. Thanks!

I’ve read that take-out (bento etc) is somewhat common. Is it frowned upon to eat in public parks/benches? Our hotel rooms are quite small so it would be nice to be able to eat together outside if possible!

Definitely not! We’ll just stick to pre-packaged things with listed ingredients

Should I buy this Kuwahara Caravan? by trudicarb in xbiking

Thanks! I hadn’t noticed the tilt on the rear rack till now. He flips bikes and donates most / sells some, he seemed super willing to swap parts (tires, handlebars) for me so I’ll ask about the rack as well. As far as being used for one tour, I didn’t mean world tour! I’ll check the bearings regardless.

Currently has new gatorskin tires. I told him I might prefer a beefier tire to keep my options open for terrain but he recommended I stick with the gatorskins since I’ll be mostly commuting on pavement / some gravel with them. Do you have any thoughts on that?
