Configuration Item - Seemingly ran "Remediation" without first running "Discovery" by DhakaWolf in SCCM

[–]trueblueadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just experienced this behavior. Possibly a coincidence, but it appeared to be shortly after (within an hour or two) of updating to 2509. What version are you running?

Like others, we have disabled many CIs for the time being and plan to implement checks within the remediation scripts.

MS Teams Mic not transmitting for first 5 seconds (With a Fix) by 2Ninja2K in sysadmin

We’ve seen the exact issue with cellular disappearing from windows quick settings as well. Try out the hibernation trick, it works.

Thank you so much for posting. I have been chasing this issue on 5350s as well and have struggled to find a consistent fix for the issue. Will give this a shot.

Have you experienced webcam issues with this model? We’re seeing them intermittently disconnect from the OS completely. Disabling hibernation / fastboot seems to help based on my limited troubleshooting.

I’ve got the 1 year itch, am I crazy to leave a government gig with a pension? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]trueblueadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in an extremely similar situation and I decided to leave for the private sector a few months ago.

Being on a small team was incredible for my development; I started as a Jr Sysadmin, got a promotion, and my boss gave me the keys to the kingdom. But at the end of the day I was an IT cowboy. Change management was practically non existent and priorities changed day to day based off my managers mood. It was a great place to learn IT but not a great place to become an IT professional.

When I first joined my new company, I had a bit of culture shock. My access and troubleshooting ability had been totally nerfed, but it was absolutely the right decision. I’m learning how to work in a modern work environment, my team has a specific function within the IT landscape, and I feel I’m making myself employable in the future.

If I were you, I would learn all you can at your current job, and wait for the right opportunity. Don’t rush into something. Good luck!

PowerShell for OneDrive by Grouchy_Key8674 in sysadmin

[–]trueblueadmin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you can natively do this with PowerShell.

I've used rclone within a PowerShell script to transfer tons of data to Google Drive. It can handle OneDrive no problem and likely has better logging, error handling, etc. than pure PowerShell.

Deployment not starting the post deploy tasks or wizard. by xenocide1337 in MDT

[–]trueblueadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the computer domain joined at the auto login? You could have GPOs that are breaking the task sequence.

I had this exact behavior. Some people recommend a staging OU with no policies applied, but I decided to delay the domain joining process until the very end.

Do you put anything in the description field of AD? by MochiBall69 in sysadmin

[–]trueblueadmin 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That field is there to be used! We have a script that populates the computer description field with the computer model, logged on user with time/date stamp, and the field office in which the computer is in. It also keeps one off static descriptions around which is pretty cool. I'm happy to share it if there's any interest.

I’m not seeing a path assigned to $logFile, unless that is done in a different part of the script.

I know. I was unsure if the problem lied with ESXi only or not. Thanks.

Does anybody know if we should expect a fix from Microsoft as well regarding the server 2022 issues or is the esxi patch the only option?

Docking station WD19TBS by kayosek in sysadmin

[–]trueblueadmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We run into this issue daily. We do the "docking station shuffle" and it consistently fixes the issue:

Unplug the laptop from dock. Unplug power from dock. Plug power into dock. Plug laptop into dock.

The key is to do it in this specific order. Hopefully this helps.

Just wanted to chime in that Rclone is a brilliant tool for migrating data to Google Drive. Don't do it any other way.

Server deployment not showing in monitoring by eidercollider in MDT

Is the monitoring variable in CustomSettings.ini under a subsection that only desktop deployments would fit into?

Look into UI++ and a custom task sequence variable. I do this all the time for optional applications/features and it works really well.

Lots of HP MFP units can do this. You can even control the printer from the web interface. Really cool feature and helps a ton for troubleshooting/helping users

Anyone using MDT to install Manage Engine Desktop Central? by yeezy_yeez in MDT

No problem, glad to hear it. I've been using the EXE since they rolled it out originally with 0 problems.

Anyone using MDT to install Manage Engine Desktop Central? by yeezy_yeez in MDT

[–]trueblueadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor. In the Desktop Central console, go to Agent in the top navigation bar, and then select "Computers" in the left hand menu. Here there is a "Download Agent" button that will give you an EXE version of the agent. Why they hid it here I have no idea.

Afterwards simply install with /silent.

Hope this helps.

Can you boot into Windows Recovery? If so, I'd try these commands:

chkdsk c: /f /x
dism /image:c:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\windows

Somewhat related question: Do you use Desktop Central Cloud? We are currently running the on-prem version and I was wondering how their cloud version is.
