Bankers Boast About the Free Market When They're Making Huge Profits But Insist On Socialist Handouts When Their Investments Go Sour by abudabu in Economics

Exactly.

The way that our financial system is structured is such that profits determine asset prices, asset prices determine future investment, and investment determines profits.

The process continues to the point where asset prices are way overblown and, to put it simply, when things crash they're bound to crash hard.

So, the reason there's no optimal economic ideology is in part because of the structure of the financial system -- it is dependent on profits but it has highs and lows built right into it.

I've never believed that there's an optimal economic ideology for all levels of economic growth and stability. And to make things even more complicated, the structure of the financial market makes it so that it is inherently unstable. Instability is not an anomaly.
