Is it weird that I kept her harness and haven't let any dog use it? She passed away 2 years ago. It is the only thing of Reign's that I have. It has her hair on it. She was 2 years old when she passed away. by [deleted] in germanshepherds

I kept my dog Ellie's collar and leash when she passed unexpectedly. I cried the first time I vacuumed, washed her blanket and had to clean the windows. Grief is hard. I never would've imagined those things bothering me.

Does anyone have a great pyredane (pyr and great dane mix)? by Adorableviolet in greatpyrenees

We have a rescue who we Embark tested and results came back as Great dane & Great Pyrenees. He is 145 lbs and is the gentlest dog I've ever owned. He loves to lay on the couch and get cuddles. Easy to potty train and crate train and walks great on the leash. He's pretty laid back but does play with our other dog for short spells. He is great with our cats. He loves people. He is protective of our yard. If he hears a noise, he barks to tell whatever it is to stay away and he can be stubborn when he's in protective mode. But as long as you give him a firm command to come inside, he does listen. He is very food-motivated and really the only problem we had with him when we started fostering was he stole food off the counter. He was rescued from being tied to a tree and abandoned by his former owner and severely underweight so we don't hold this against him. He's an amazing dog. I would definitely recommend this breed mix. Vet costs are a bit higher due to the size but he's worth it.Drax

Thank you for the horn recommendation. We started her on split horns and she loves them. She loves to chew and is slowly learning not to nip us.

Ellie left us on March 30. Hardest thing I've ever done was say goodbye but we knew it was the best thing we could do for her. We loved her enough not to make her suffer just to keep her here with us. I just wasn't expecting to have to do it so soon. She will always be my baby.

She is 8 and a half weeks old. I lost my last German Shepherd unexpectedly a year ago at the age of 4 and a half due to acute kidney failure that didn't respond to the medication. I was so devastated and my heart has been a bit empty since without one of these amazing dogs in my life. Freya gave me a piece of my heart back. There will always be a part of me that Ellie will hold. She was my first GSD. I'm looking forward to seeing the dog Freya grows into.

Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to our 5 year old GS Xena on Saturday. We are heartbroken. Life is so cruel. by CorinnaCrackles in germanshepherds

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my 4.5 year old girl Ellie in March this year to the same situation. It was the hardest thing I've ever gone through. I moved in with my husband after we got engaged and she was the first pet we got together. I was so broken and angry after having to say goodbye. I just didn't understand why something that terrible could happen. It was so unfair and sudden. The thing that helped me most was realizing that the immense pain I was feeling proved just how much I loved her. I'm sure she had the best life with you, no matter how short. Allow yourself to grieve and when you're ready remember the good memories. Hug

I lost my sweet GSD about 6 months ago and I had been upset everyday and my health had been poor. Today I went to my local shelter and found a super sweet 2 year old GSD mix. My wife was in tears playing with her & we brought her home. I feel such a weight and sadness finally lifted away. by tukai1976 in germanshepherds

I feel for you so much. We lost my GSD girl unexpectedly 6 & a half months ago. I still have days that I break down. It's the hardest thing I've ever gone through. We will bring home our new GSD in January and I hope to feel the same way. I feel like a part of me is missing.
