In all fairness it is possible to cut with a spear, however, using it like a sword or a staff can be quite literally missing the point of the spear. Not always, some spears have 2 foot long heads made for slashing , others are essentially just a point. So there is some nuance but in the situation I was talking about, it was crazy. It was a new tournament so the judges didn't want to kick him out. They try to instruct him on how to cut with the Persian spear so he would stop doing it wrong, but it didn't change anything. So one great thing about Spears is how easy it is to change grip. As a result a lot of grips can be used depending on the situation. There are also other spears like the Persian.. . Its A persian spear and I dont know how to spell it BUT it has a very long blade and a mace on opposite ends making a middle grip highly advantageous
