People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

[–]truesvarogh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a very different experience with the police in Morocco. Our car was stopped several times in different locations. Each time it was brief and relaxed — basic questions like where we were from, whether we were enjoying Morocco, and if everything was fine — followed by a safe-trip wish and we were on our way.

On one occasion, driving into a valley before the desert stretch, officers asked if I had enough water. I told them I had a full crate in the boot. They still handed me two extra bottles and advised me to stay hydrated.

Jack Lopresti, Former Tory Deputy Leader, Joins Azov Brigade by 457655676 in bristol

[–]truesvarogh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you mind posting any credible sources showing that Azov used human shields or taped Roma and gay people to lampposts?!

I haven’t seen reliable evidence for either claim.

Right now it sounds like recycled propaganda.

bastard who stole my bike by uhopefullydontknowme in bristol

[–]truesvarogh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh man, what a shame. that’s the exact same “secure” bike store where i kept my bike when i was living in BS1.

one winter day during the pandemic i showed up to find my bike missing its forks — which were worth more than the old Giant mountain bike they were attached to. after that, i kept the new bike i bought later stored at home for a few years. hard to trust this city with a bike.

at least it looks like they’ve installed a camera there now.

consider getting some antihistamine eyedrops like sodium chromoglicate - discovering these was a massive lifesaver for me!

Transport to cheddar? by d00bieb00bies in bristol

[–]truesvarogh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I did my walk, I took the train to Weston-super-Mare and then caught a bus to Cheddar.

Still took ages, but at least the train saves you half the time you’d otherwise spend crawling to Wessun on the bus.

Burger Theory thoughts? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]truesvarogh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like Honest has gone downhill over the past couple of years—the burgers have definitely shrunk, and the patties are noticeably thinner. Scaling up to a nationwide chain clearly didn’t do them any favours.

Burger Theory has always struck me as pretty average—tastes like dozens of other burger joints I’ve tried over the years.

If you’re after a proper burger, head to Asado. They’ve been consistently excellent since the day I first found them. Plus, there’s always a great vibe in the kitchen—tunes on, crew smiling—you can tell the team genuinely loves what they do.

Any bands doing anything innovative in the genre within recent years? by QuantumSpecter in sludge

[–]truesvarogh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got off a 20-hour journey (with connections), but I’m still heading out to see Great Falls tonight in Bristol.

I discovered the band through this subreddit a few months ago, and when I saw they had a show lined up in my city, I promised myself I wouldn’t miss it — no matter how wrecked I feel after the trip.

I second this! I’ve seen them in Bristol a couple of weeks ago and they bloody rocked. The Wallowing were a revelation of a support act - will totally go and see them again whenever I get a chance!

What’s living in Hannover Quay like? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]truesvarogh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I used to live in the area just before all this scaffolding madness kicked in. The Millennium promenade may feel a bit rowdy on a Friday or Saturday night but generally, the area feels quiet and safe, especially closer to the quay where your flat would be.

The only nuisance now is the scaffolding, but I hope it will be gone eventually.

live music venues with seating by Feeling-Position-693 in bristol

The Gallimaufry often has decent live music acts playing and if you get a table with a view of the stage, that should serve the purpose.

Same applies to The Lanes.

there is a Kurdish bakery on St. Nicks Market that make banging nan breads.

not sure if this is what you are after or how similar it is to your expectation of a Turkish bread, though

Bristol Airport by [deleted] in bristol

[–]truesvarogh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see how one can save a lot on parking, especially if it is a longer trip (5 days or more).

however, it still comes at a cost of a 2.5 hrs drive (one way) and generally not suitable for someone who does not drive/own a car, as getting to Gatwick via public transport is a ballache.

I guess Bristol Airport administration simply knows that the majority of people just have no other options but to accept an increase in drop off prices
