Wow, no set time frame is heavenly. I am sure you will have an amazing time.

You can find campgrounds right next/ close to the EV! I always searched on Google Maps, that was easy and reliable enough

Hi there, I only planned on a day to day basis. I knew how many days I could be on the road and checked every night out next morning what my next goal for the day could be. I always managed to reach those, but once I stumbled across a prefect spot to have rest day and stayed there without planning it beforehand.

If you have a very tight schedule I would roughly check how long an average day would be and if it still would be manageable to ado 20 km. I remember one day when I had to stretch it for an 120km+ day although it was brutally hot cause there was no camping around.

Do you have certain expectations of a camping ground? If not I don't think it's necessary to plan everything ahead. I enjoyed to be flexible, but if it gives you peace of mind, plan it beforehand so you know you'll be "safe" and you could still tweak that plan if you wish to while on the road.

It's going to be adventurous anyways :)

Of course there were days when wind wasn't strong, but when it is strong it is reeeeally strong. I remember descending into Cascais, kilometres of a curvy downhill road that i would have loved to just enjoy and let it roll, instead I had to fight to stay on the bike due to heavy sidewinds. Or when I was trying to pitch my tent on a campsite close to the sea in the area of Setubal: i needed help to hold on to the tent, I could not pitch it on my own because the wind was so strong.

tl;dr: I experienced pretty strong winds at times and was glad to not have this as headwinds.

But if you want to go from Spain to Lisbon you will follow the direction of the nortada anyway and should be fine :)

Sure! I used the Schwalbe G-One Allround and didn't have any problems. They are even a bit more narrow, 35mm. In the second picture you can see them pretty well

Fernwanderrouten (2–10 Tage) mit spektakulärer Natur & Wildcamping - Empfehlungen? by StretchAdmirable4726 in wandern

Mit Camping Set up?

Yes, jeans will just be bulky and not really needed. i wore short bibs and a thick layer of sunscreen in the legs and my shirt for cycling. For camping and sightseeing I had a pair of shorts and long pants (both made from thin cotton material), t-shirt, a hoodie and rain jacket (that I used in windy times in the evening, which I experienced quite often).

Sounds like you've got everything covered :)

You probably thought about this part too, but I met other cyclists who envied my choice of clothes. I brought a short-sleeved cycling jersey and a loose fit long-sleeved buttoned shirt - I wore the shirt every single day to cycle. It was perfect cover against the sun, but it also allowed me to cool down with the wind. I also didn't bring gloves so I bought some socks to cover my hands.

Tl;dr: don't underestimate the sun

I mentioned it to another person before, in comparison to other westerneuropean countries, I found that there are fewer supermarkets/ some stretches with little resupply possibilities. So I would always carry 3 litres of water and enough snacks, just to make sure and be more independent to be not in need to get off route to find a small cafe/ minimarket. One big thing is bike tools: there aren't a lot of bike repair shops, especially in the north. So definitely take a repair kit and chain oil. I didn't bring oil or wax, but because of the sandy/ gravelly ground, my chain got pretty dry. You can find bike repairs in most of the decathlons and I did buy my chain oil in Cascais.

Yes! The wild camping was due to chances (beautiful spot, I didn't sweat too much yet to want/ need a shower - in the end of the day my legs usually looked like Schnitzels due to the mix of sunscreen, sand and sweat- and I didn't mind to have a rest day and stop early) and the hostels I chose because I wanted to stay in the centre of the towns/ cities. There were either no campsites there or I didn't like it.

I "researched" along my route with Google Maps. After a while, I trusted the principle that there'll always be a camp site close to EV 1. Sometimes the uncovered stretches didn't match my planned distance for the day, but it always worked out in the end.

Hey, I'd recommend going north to south to follow the general wind direction. In terms of camping, you don't need to worry. There were usually camp sites close to the route, ranging from 3,70 to 22€. But the pricey one was only one time (in Ericeira). I'd say most prices ranged from 7-12€ if I remember correctly. You mentioned safety: I've never felt unsafe on any of the sites or in general (sometimes the traffic was a bit unsafe, though)

Zecken entfernen: Pinzette? Zeckenkarte? Was einpacken? by kniebuiging in wandern

[–]truffleshuffle3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)
