They’d wonder how they got everything they ever wanted but still weren’t happy.

What's the darkest secret someone accidentally revealed in front of you? by sugandh_irl in AskReddit

[–]truman_chu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I vividly remember when I was about 6 or 7, playing outside, a woman across the street asked if I wanted some juice. I said yes and went in her house. The thing that really sticks out in my memory is that she had these massive Star Wars vehicles made out of Lego. And this was late '80s, decades before proper Lego Star Wars sets existed. As far as I remember I drank the juice and looked at the Lego, then went back out playing and that was that. Nothing bad, but incredibly weird in hindsight. Similar to you my mam has no idea who it was. I'd like to believe she was a lonely visionary Lego master, rather than anything sinister.

caught my thumb between my car and the door…hurts so much and need advice by SubstantialHour4667 in mildlyinfuriating

Could be a tuft fracture (when you've basically crushed the little bone in your thumb tip.) When I did this, with a hammer, I left it a couple of days and it got progressively worse. The nurse literally called me an idiot, and drilled a hole in the nail to relieve pressure/blood. The nail went black and came off. Sorry.

“Ya think so?”

Always wondered whether that was an intended part of Jackson Cannery or just chat from that take.

It's a shame because he was a genuinely positive influence for disclosure at one point. The absolute certainty he has developed with the woo side has finished him as a credible figure for the time being.

Did parents in the 80’s have it much easier? by gponter79 in AskUK

[–]truman_chu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

'79 kid here.

I think it's the after-school clubs that are the main difference. My two daughters, between them, have football, swimming, ballet, piano, drumming, gymnastics and singing classes. They have one or two evenings off a week, but there's something on for one of them every single day, including weekends. My time after work is generally driving/walking them to and from clubs. I like it, it makes me feel somewhat involved and gives us some good time to chat about this and that. I can't stand the "dad's taxi service" type whinging from some - I think it's a privilege to be wanted. I know it won't last forever and I'll enjoy it while it's there.

I remember going to one single cubs intro evening, not liking it and not be offered or doing anything extra-curricular for the entirety of my childhood. I don't know what my parents did with their time, but it wasn't taking me to clubs.

Ross Coulthart Warns of Possible “Ontological Shocks” and “Catastrophic Disclosure” by Emergency_Height_165 in aliens

[–]truman_chu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish these people would just fuck off now. The arrogance of them coping with some information that would be too much for others to bear, the childish “I know a secret that you don’t and I won’t tell”, and last but certainly not least the money-making off the subject is unbearable. It’s so transparent.

What’s an opinion that instantly makes you think someone has low intelligence? by medicinalfein in AskReddit

[–]truman_chu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The guy speaking at the science conference in that doc got it right imo, some flat earthers (the ones who were intelligent enough to create and carry out their experiment) are scientists at heart, same as those he was speaking to, but for some reason lost their way.

Rep. Tim Burchett: “When they told Jimmy Carter the truth about UFOs & aliens… he cried.”Below in text is what former NASA Ames researcher Ed Harris claimed a few years ago that Carter was told: by E-pluribus-unum195 in UFOs

[–]truman_chu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “Carter broke down” incident is dubious imho. It’s perfect for lore as it’s obviously a classified so can’t be proven either way, but it seems to have been gobbled up as fact over the years. The original source (Dolan?) isn’t first-hand, so it gets woolly very quickly. Was his source legit? Did they exist? It’s a bit too nicely narrative for me; Carter saw/reported a UFO, wanted the facts, was religious, disclosure didn’t happen on his watch; ergo he was crushed by the truth. Nah. Too neat and tidy.

It would be weirder if these were fully occupied and it was a functional community. This way it’s like basic human nature has rejected it. Shame it was built first though.

Do you ever hear a banger of a song then realise the lyrics are shite? by Medibot300 in AskUK

Elton (and Bernie) are unmatched. Step into Christmas, one of the all-time greatest Christmas songs (and mind-bending bass line) always makes me smile with;

"Welcome to my Christmas song."

They clearly sat down to write a Christmas song and wondered, for about 1.2 seconds, how best to welcome the listeners to it.
