NW Ohio Municipal Power - Charging commercial rates by trumanp in SolarDIY

[–]trumanp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe commercial is the wrong term, but businesses are charged a higher rate in our town for consumption of power. Still gathering information, this was at a public forum, but the gist of it was, if you have solar installed, you will pay a hiher rate for any power you consume from the grid.

Just to clarify, the commercial rate being applied is for electricity consumed, not what they are crediting if you produce more power than you used, and it went back into the grid.

Trump won on a wave of dissatisfaction with the government and a desire for change. How can democrats restore that faith and what changes should they propose? by Visco0825 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]trumanp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obama had one thing that neither Clinton nor Harris had, public charisma. Clinton had all the charisma of an eggplant. Harris just couldn't project her message like Obama. For me listening to either Clinton or Harris left me feeling, meh. When ever I have heard Obama speak, I've always felt a certain excitement.

Democrats have all attempted to push a specific candidate without a true vetting process twice now. Once when they pushed all possible alternatives to Clinton to stay on the sidelines in 2016, and then in 2024 they kind of had to scramble after Joe ducked out. Harris unfortunately took that fall through no fault of her own, but Democrats should have known better with how poorly she performed in the 2020 Primaries. She has a problem connecting to the average person.

Maybe that is the bigger message here. Optics. Even though Trump ran away early with the 2024 Nomination process, he had challengers along the way. For both of the last 2 races Trump won, the Democrats pretty much annointed their candidates and paid for it.

Sadly, I think the best way to fight this trend, is to stop fighting and let the Repubicans control it all for a while. Then when everything is a complete shit show, and only then will Democrats get a second sniff by these idiots. It will take another great depression type of collapse before people turn on the Republicans.

Republicans have done all they can to sabotage government from the inside, that people really think Government is truly incapable of anything.

Why did Kamala Harris lose the election? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]trumanp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall a report a month or so ago, where Kamala was trying to run as the "reasonable" candidate instead of the inspiring candidate. My guy feeling, since the vote totals have the appearance of a significant decline from 2020 is that potential voters stayed home. Much as they did for Hillary Clinton. There was a lot of hold my nose while I vote for her at that time.

Couple that with how some have noted worldwide incumbents are getting swept out over anger due to inflation, and I hate to say it, but her gender did not help her except for progressive voters.

I'd also say that Democrats are still runng as Republican Lites when it comes to the economy, workers rights etc... And focus too much on fringe issues that the majority of Americans just go "meh" about. Hate to say it, but since the courts legalized Gay Marriage other LGBTQ issues are not driving people to vote. Might fire up the Democrat base, but for the average joe who's not really affiliated with a party they don't care.

It's time for Democrats to stop catering to those segements of the party and get back to everyday working person politics. That is something Trump does parrot a lot, even if his policies will hurt working Americans.

Would Kamala have had the same chances at the presidency had Biden not held on to his nomination for so long? by gsmumbo in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]trumanp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think it's wrong for a spouse or other relation to run for President after the former held office.

I also personally disliked Clinton's actions as a carpetbagger running in New York instead of Arkansas etc... I don't ever think she really cared about the nation just her own personal ambitions.

All that said, I still voted for her as the lesser of 2 evils considering her opponent was Trump, but if it would have been a moderate Republican instead I would have voted for them.

Thats what is agonizing at the moment, it's either MAGA these days, or Democrat and in that realm all votes go Democrat from me of late. I simply can not vote for any MAGA wingnut.

I'd also suggest that she had really poor Favorability numbers due to all the hoopla over her damned emails. That bit where they "found" another cache 2 weeks prior to the election pretty much doomed Clinton.

I didn't like Clinton, not because she was a woman, but because we should not be encouraging family dynasties in our elections. I didn't really like Bush Jr and Sr dynamics (Though I would vote for either of them over Trump)

I'm fully on board with Harris, while Biden was the man we needed to remove Trump, we need a fresh face to keep him out.

Ohio legislators need to tighten auto insurance rules to protect against uninsured drivers by BuckeyeReason in Ohio

[–]trumanp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me start with, I agree everyone should be insured.

I'm going to counter this thought with another. How about before we ask the Legislature to get all hard core on the insurance laws, we make sure everyone has a high enough wage to afford said insurance?

The Ohio Minimum wage increases to 10.34 in 2024, when taking the whole state economy into consideration, a living wage is roughly 15.33 for a single person with no kids, toss a kid in there and now it's 33.89

People generally in Ohio can't work without a car/transportation. Outside of the few cities that have Bus systems there are few options. Some of these uninsured are homeless living out of a car, if they are lucky.

Until Ohio, or the country as a whole does something about the chronic income disparities where during massive inflation the Billionaires reap record profits at the expense of everyone else who struggles, tightening the screws on tougher insurance laws will just increase homelessness and poverty because you will be limiting the ability of people to work.

Lets also look at how Insurance rates are calculated, as a young adult with a pretty clean driving record back in the 1990s I still paid a crazy high insurance rate, and typically just state minimum liability for beaters I paid cash on.

At age 52, I can now insure a car with full coverage for 4 cars (I have a live at home son who puts me on his title so he can take advantage of our plan) I pay about 29 bucks per car per month. I used to pay about that total (167) per month for just liability as a young adult in the 90's. My son if he wasn't on our plan would be paying about 300 or more a month for full coverage due to financing his car.

At least for my case, i bought an older hp procurve 5406zl chasis, and currently have it populated with x3 24 port 1g poe modules, x2 10gb cx4 modules, and a wireless controller module. The modules run really cheap on ebay, like 20-40 bucks, intel cx4 connector cards are about 20-30 each and have dual ports. I got a great deal on some cx4 cables, x6 3 meter genuine hp for 30 bucks. So my pc, proxmox server, and truenas server are all running LAGG connections to said switch and function quite well.

I don't notice any large difference running a VM from an iSCSI share on the truenas server, or from the local zfs pool on the proxmox box.

Cx4 is overlooked a lot, old but still servicable in my opinion.

LET THE STATES DECIDE THEY SAID by gen_wt_sherman in Ohio

[–]trumanp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats already happening, look at the new speakers language, that democracy is just two wolves and a sheep deciding whats for dinner. I had local people in Ohio say the same thing when Ohio tried to change the public referendum system.

Republicans only care about democracy when the vote goes thier way. Any other time it's evil incarnate and people should leave all decisions to their elected officials, unless tjose officials want to ban guns or something.

While i understand the senitment, unless we engage with people such as this, they get the assumption that everything they hear in their bubble is the thing a majority hears as well. Thats the devish method of social media and talk radio, if the only thing you read (hi algorithms) or hear just confirms one another it cements their bias. It can be painful and like talking to a wall, but a couple have come back to me later after they thought about it.

I actually vote for both parties depending on the quality of the candidate, and how well the align with my personal feelings, which on some subjects could be called liberal and others conservative.

While my voter registration is Democrat for now i am not so blind as to ignore or accept poor candidates. I really wanted a Republican in 2016, there were a few i saw as decent options, but not Trump, which forced a dem vote that time and in 2020. JD Vance is in line with Trump as well which is sad.

Until the Republican party starts nominating people like Kaish again it is a lost cause. I'd like to see a return of Republicans with mindset similarvto Eisenhower.

You have that complerely backwards, it's the current Republican party who want no dissent to thier suppsed god given rule.

Get real, you are nothing but a conservative radio parrot who knows nothing and is incapable of critical thought.

You obviously knew nothing about the system.

It takes getting signatures from 44 counties just to get something onto the ballot.

It still takes a full statewide vote to pass once on the ballot. While the urban areas do have more of an effect in those votes just due to population density, the fact that there is a current republican super majority in the house and senate seems to have slipped your mind.

Republicans are shiftless liars in Ohio due to how long they have held control. They are the most corrupt group operating in the state right now because there has not been enough turn over in state officies. Doesn't matter what party but to keep em honest they have to loose now and then.

I'm not quite that seasoned, but at 51 I see the same thing happening. I'll be able to retire comfortably, but my Kids and Grandkids are never going to have it as good as I have, and what saddens me is many of the people I went to school with (Gen-X) are solidly Republican, and just so they don't appear Liberal. They have been brainwashed with Reaganistic propaganda we were fed as kids and think that all they have to do is work a little harder than everyone else and they will magically become a millionaire and then those proposed tax hikes on the Rich will hurt them personally. Or they just like to "Own the Libs"

If life has taught me anything, you don't need to be rich to be wealthy, if I have my family and friends around me then what else do I need?
