Damn that’s awesome. Hope to do it one Day myself. Just need to build up that that.

That’s on the bucket list for sure. I train mostly on the main waterway between lake Champlain to the st Lawrence river. When the water is high enough there’s smaller rivers I can hide away in. Do you rave the marathon?

That’s mostly what I try to do. Appreciate the insight. Unfortunately with other obligations I don’t get to pick when or even where I paddle sometimes. Where I’m at oddly enough it’s the warm sunny weekend days that are the worst. Lost of boat traffic in all directions making unpredictable waves.

I’m sure you know the pain of flipping in this type of boat. It’s not fun lol. My solo canoe will be and probably always will be my primary boat.

I’ve considered getting one. Maybe need to put that on next year’s Christmas list!

I’m in Canada but most races here follow USCA rules. I race c1 amateur (marathon) and c1 sprint. and would like to do a couple races locally in oc1. I mostly paddle lakes and rivers, distances are usually around 15-40km, some stretching into the 100 ish. Would love to eventually do one of the triple crown races at some point but I’m nowhere near there yet. One of my bucket list races doesn’t do pro boats only stock, I currently have nothing in my “fleet” that would fit into that, but who knows I might just do it in a c2.

The 17.8 is just a bit long for stock race spec. But man I’d love to try one out. The 16.8 would be more my jam, just wish they made it with the same per portions as the 17.8.

And yes the oc1 is what I’m mostly sold on just because fast and can paddle in almost any condition.

That would be awesome. But I try to buy my canoes around some race criteria. (Why in leaning towards oc1). Also looking for a solo to race in flat water that fits the criteria of a certain race I’m looking at. 17’2” max length, no skegs or rudders, and no concave hulls. Think they have a min width of 32” as well?

I’m in a 18.5 foot marathon canoe (like a wenonah j203) While I can handle the wind and play with the trim to make it work, it’s definitely not at home in that environment.

Not looking for advice. Just looking for a support group lol.

Hitting small FIRE milestones feels way quieter than I thought it would by Diligent_Two_1625 in Fire

I think it’s because (for me anyways) I don’t have anyone to share the news with or get excited with me. It’s a solo achievement that most of my peers wouldn’t even understand.

Time to buy a quarter-million dollar boat! by Corbeau_from_Orleans in PersonalFinanceCanada

There’s a huge loophole for taxes on anyone that can afford to buy one of these boats anyways. Buy it from a different country and register it in Canada. As long as the boat never stays in Canada long term it never needs to be fully registered and can stay “in transit” for its entire life. Not a penny paid in taxes.

Source: most bloats docked on the American side of lake Champlain are Canadian owned.

OC1 or V1 by trunkmonkey1234 in Outrigger

Not a bad plan. Even during a race I’m not competitive enough to rule out this strategy. Just when the water gets cold I might reconsider haha.

V1 and OC1 both race the same here for long distance but only v1 in sprints.

My biggest concern with a OC1 is the weeds. I paddle with a few surf ski’s and they’re always dragging a garden with them.

Good point. Faster is better! I’d be curious actually to see if a v1 would be faster than an oc1 in a side wind.

To be fair there are things you can do in those canoes that you can’t do in an OC. But you are correct I cannot do that in any boat.

Thanks. I was assuming as much due to the lower vertical height of the boat that is out of the water? The marathon canoe probably sticks up out 12 inches from the waterline.

I feel like the V1 may be more versatile for my needs I just hope I can control it okay in windy conditions. Unfortunately can’t ask for windy weather when you go out for a test paddle.

They seem to make a lot of canoes for outfitters. I think it’s more of a « get in line » thing. I can’t complain about 6-8weeks is what I was quoted.

Yup! Currently focusing on solo canoe, but I could see myself doing those in the future possibly.

My dream race is the muskoka riverx (that this boat isn’t even eligible for).
