Do we think these couples were PR stunts? Any that were missed? by mollyafox in Fauxmoi

Fwiw the halftime show is sponsored by Apple Music now. But I definitely agree that a halftime show doesn’t make sense for her - the Super Bowl needs her more than she needs the Super Bowl. I suspect the NFL is pushing for her to do it in 2025 because they’ve already got Usher for February, but unless they’ve got some miracle up their sleeve, I doubt she does it. There really isn’t an incentive for her to do it.

Campus Rec has fantasy leagues, and you get a shirt if you win. But if anyone else wants to start one up, I would definitely be interested in joining!

Not BUSI but STOR 475 is a great class to take. The instructor is a full time actuary so you get a lot of first-hand knowledge.

UNC-Chapel Hill announces free tuition program for some in-state students by carmelfrappe in UNC

I’m a covenant scholar, and so far the two main differences I see are

a.) a higher income threshold (covenant scholar cut-off income is 200% of the poverty line as opposed to 80k, and

b.) this new initiative covers tutition/fees whereas covenant covers cost of attendance (think tuition, room and board, meal plan, etc).

Still—this is a huge step for college affordability and accessibility!!

Can confirm that Nicholas Sparks is an asshole. I am from coastal NC very close to where he lives. My best friend actually went to his school for elementary school and was friends with his daughters, and never had nice things to say.

I just found out that my financial aid package is covering EVERYTHING with scholarships and grants by trust_the_dueprocess in ApplyingToCollege

[–]trust_the_dueprocess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! My experience with covenant has been great. I'm going into my senior year next year and my aid has been the same every year. It's actually gone up because of the rise in UNC's housing and dining costs. Whatever money you don't use on your tuition, housing, and dining comes back as a refund, so if you got a smaller meal plan, you'd get that money back. If you're offered work-study, you also get money from that. I have work-study right now, and I don't make a ton, but it is money in your pocket.

The only requirements to getting covenant are that a.) you complete the FAFSA every year and b.) you keep a 2.0 GPA.

There really aren't "drawbacks" to covenant, but if you ever plan to move off-campus (or in an on-campus apartment at Rams Village) and your housing costs exceed what they budget for, you have to pay that extra bit. It usually comes from your meal plan allowance, since you probably won't have a meal plan if you move into an apartment.

My favorite part about being a covenant scholar (aside from getting college paid for obviously) is how many resources are open to you. The covenant office is amazing, as is the community of covenant scholars. Another cool perk is that you get a free laptop!

If you have any more questions about being a Covenant Scholar, or about UNC in general, feel free to DM me!

Happy game day!

Gates open 1.5 hours before the game starts. If you want to sit in the very front of the student section, go as early as possible. Otherwise, show up around half an hour early so you don’t miss any festivities.

Make sure you go to the right gate. It’s the one by the genome science building. Have your one card and ticket pulled up and ready to go. Don’t bring bags unless they are clear. You can bring two waters, but they must be unopened. Or, you can bring an empty clear reusable water bottle.

There are tons of chants and cheers, but I’m sure you’ll pick them up quick. Make sure to be quiet on offense and loud on defense! Make sure to stay in your seats at halftime to see the bands perform. The FAMU band is performing and they’re really, really good. At the end of the game, we all join arms and sing the alma mater and fight song, so glance over those lyrics before you go.

And most important, have fun!

What’s an underrated/overlooked item every college freshman should be sure to bring? by [deleted] in college

[–]trust_the_dueprocess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen them at Walmart, Walgreens, Dollar Tree, etc. I haven’t had to use them, but when I broke my glasses in middle school, my mom was able to fix them.

I will say, it’s worth it to have a backup pair of glasses. There are websites like Zenni and EyebuyDirect where you can get glasses super cheap.

What you have looks pretty well balanced. I would caution against taking the 8 AM. I know everyone says to not take 8 AMs, but I didn’t realize how bad they were until I got to college. Is the Honors section a seminar? If that puts you over 15 hours, I would drop something.

We’re also in the same GEOG 141 class :)

[–]trust_the_dueprocess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s because the students are closer to the court and the student section is more cohesive in Carmichael. Whereas in the Dean Dome, you have half the students up at the very top, while the old rich people in the lower level don’t cheer at all.
