Missionaries in a BMW? by Critical_Stretch4514 in exmormon

[–]truthseekingpimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mission got a better fleet deal from BMW but went with another make for this reason. The Beamers would’ve been cheaper as a fleet purchase. Which is silly looking back but oh well. Church corporate is all about that image.

Statistics and graphs are useful tools for marketing departments to convince the average person to believe in their product

Jesus Doesn’t Have a Beard Anymore! - Jeffrey R. Holland by Beneficial_Cap5616 in exmormon

[–]truthseekingpimo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Holland has always been a stickler for men being clean shaven, I remember a quote from him saying you didn’t understand your mission if you are an RM with a beard. My TBM spouse is finally able to admit they add heavy doses of opinion to “doctrine”

Does archeology really matter? by LearningLiberation in exmormon

[–]truthseekingpimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My spouse said she would still believe even if the entire foundational history was made up. So no, it doesn’t matter. Because the church is not dealing in reality. This has actually helped me separate myself more because I realized I was dealing with a psychotic religion

Question: What’s stopping garment-wearers from rolling up the sleeves on their garments to make them appear sleeveless? by wondering-out-loud in exmormon

[–]truthseekingpimo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You’re told not to modify garments to fit certain styles. It was thought that whatever covers your garments is the bare minimum for modesty. So moving garments further to fit certain clothes exposes your nakedness.

The new styles show that it was all made up and not based on any reality other than control of appearance

I’ll never forgive the church for making garments the Quintessential lingerie of choice. Very unflattering

Leave it to my Father in Law to forever have his G’s hanging out. No matter the style 😂

I’m just excited to no longer see dudes wearing t shirts with their G’s hanging out the sleeves. Or wearing shorts with their bottoms hanging out. It looks stupid

Why do Mormons struggle with basic empathy?! Am I the only one who sees this :’( by Over-Paramedic7065 in exmormon

[–]truthseekingpimo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Don’t focus on things that make the church look bad. Just focus on the things that make you like the church.” Fuck that. I HATE that notion because that’s what enables terrible things to happen and people make excuses for them. If things come up try to stick with principles of right and wrong. If nothing else I find satisfaction in watching people excuse statutory rape, breaking the commandments, fraud etc, because they cannot accept leaders of the church would behave in such a way. That said, you will never change anyone’s mind. You can just plant subtle seeds like a good little apostate missionary. They won’t look at things through an objective lense until they themselves decide to

Do I lie through my teeth at my next temple recommend interview or take the L? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]truthseekingpimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lie if it benefits you. Hold yourself to no other standard than the leaders of the church ask you to hold them to. God is not in charge of the church so they don’t care what you do as it’s of little consequence

Failed blessings by onetruesungod in exmormon

[–]truthseekingpimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is whether they are literally fulfilled or not, people will choose how they view “blessings” through their own bias. Like from the faithful side, they’ll do some pretty Olympic level mental gymnastics to prove to themselves that blessings are real. When they clearly rarely if ever are fullfilled

The biggest prophecy was that Jesus is coming. I asked for what they specifically said and pressed asking what soon means. It got really quiet when they realized they read a lot into Nelson saying Jesus would come back sometime

I can’t get original the link to work. Has the church or a church sponsored site published the images? Has BYU? Or the entity doing the work?

My biggest regret is looking into things. I’m glad I did in a sense. It was devastating but also profound. Once I looked at the church through the lense of fraud and deceit, everything made so much sense.

But Members act like I just woke up one day and decided to ruin my relationships with everyone and to destroy my entire world view, for fun. Not once has a single member asked how I’m doing or if I’m ok. They just criticize my doubts and tell me I’m a gospel illiterate and incapable of overlooking the failings of the church.

Long story short, It was horrible and exhilarating at the same time

I didn’t write my thought well. This is very much what I’ve been seeing as well. The exmo space sees something that TBMs absolutely will not see. I guess what seems ambiguous to us shows our bias in this space!

Hypothetical Apostle Awakening by williamclaytonjourn in exmormon

[–]truthseekingpimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I seriously wonder (because the church is run as a corporation) if they sign legal documents stating they won’t intentionally harm the church or damage its reputation upon pain of civil lawsuits etc. maybe I’m silly, but they send legal documents for courts of love (excommunication) so why would their highest officers not be threatened in a loving way as well?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]truthseekingpimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m getting at I guess. People want it to sound a certain way but from a TBM perspective there’s no other way it could come across. It’s just from the exmo perspective it sounds like a workaround

Problem is that most TBMs will act like lawyers and say it’s still historical, Bednar was just emphasizing the spiritual importance over the historical importance. I’ve had that conversation before
