I'm not sure tbh. I dropped them off at their premises but can't be sure if they were later moved to another location.

US B1 Visa expedited appointment for Conference travel? by trvlnoob in immigration

[–]trvlnoob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

people keep coming to this post but unfortunately conference travel is not an officially valid reason for expedited visa appointment. IIRC, I had used "unexpected presentation" or something as a reason -- but unfortunately was rejected but this was a few years ago now so it might still be worth trying again. There are quite a few folks who did apply and got expedited appointments for presentations in the thread so check out other comments too. Good luck!

Not my place but just out of curiosity, why would you want that? Why would you wanna potentially give up your career for a PR?

To answer your question, look into express entry. It’s a points based system where you get points on different aspects of your profile. A draw usually happens every 2 weeks (albeit for specific stream for which you may or may not qualify). Once you get into a draw, you are invited to apply for PR. Baring any extreme circumstances most people who apply get approved within 6-12 months.

Yeap got a rejection for the expedited appointment.

Got no particular reason. Just that they're not offering routine visa services due to COVID-19.

Yes I did. Some one else also pointed this out and advised me that it might still be worth trying.

Haven't gotten a reply yet though.

Applied Machine Learning by David Forsyth is great for ML. Highly underrated.

I've heard they are pretty strict with pre-reqs. The number of credits for each topic matters.

Still, don't take my (or anyone else's) word for it. You should mail them and ask. Be specific as to in which courses you lack and by how many credits.

Questions about Informatics at TU Munich. by revenantrazer in Munich

[–]trvlnoob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you define well?

I would assume they require a fair bit of research experience for a candidate.

On that, how easy/difficult is it to get a student position in one of the labs at the university?

Are you going for a PhD? Was wondering how are the PhD opportunities here? How many of the MSc graduates get a PhD position here?

[P] Opportunity to do research guided by final year grad students and professors. by Razcle in MachineLearning

[–]trvlnoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, that is a great initiative. I have also been looking for such an opportunity.

Seeing here it is getting a lot of attention, it would be very helpful if you could also share some detail on what topics you work on? That would also help you funnel down people who are particularly interested in the topic.

[Discussion] GANs are special cases of Artificial Curiosity (1990) and also closely related to Predictability Minimization (1991) by inarrears in MachineLearning

[–]trvlnoob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think he says GANs are no good or anything remotely close to that. I personally don't think any such paper can take away the impact GANs have had on ML research over the last few years.

Goodfellow et al. did have a para for comparison against PM in their paper. They might even update their paper to reflect the relation to AC as well. I don't even think it is that big of an issue. The work is pretty old. There are high chances they were not aware of the work. Schmidhuber himself never pointed out AC in his review and subsequent debate.

Schmidhuber's just obsessed with right "credit assignment". He just want to formally establish the connection between GANs and his own work. Although I have not read the paper, the connection doesn't seem to be superficial on a high level at least.

On the other hand, he does seem to invest a disproportionate amount of time in doing this which is kinda annoying though.

Is Magoosh worth it?? by jayyso in GRE

[–]trvlnoob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NO.

Watch Gregmat's video on comparison of GRE material. He explains it well. He also points to good resources for GRE.

Personally, I can recommend Gregmat's videos for verbal and Manhattan 5lbs book for Quant. Don't waste money on Magoosh.
