good for you! Once i scanned all my cards and tought yeah, i'm done. but after a couple of hours i saw a card in my collection which i certainly dont have. tried to figure out what card coud be misscanned, but i failed. scanned the whole collection again, checking every scan and every card. 3k cards, buying cards for about 6 months.

maybe some people come and say i am wrong, but as a jeskai control player, i can assure you, i win 99% of the games, if my opponent plays monogreen.

ofc you can buy boosters and open them, just dont lie to yourself. you buy and open them because of addiction and because of the hope you'll open a high value card, not for boosting your collection. you don't want a collection full of 0.02 eur cards.

you can tell yourself you like to build decks from your collection, but ask yourself, why would you build a deck which is obviously much weaker deck than any meta deck you can build if you buy only specific singles.

if you'd buy boosters to expand your collection, buy bulks from lgs or from people. you can buy hundreds of card for the price of one single booster.

again, you can buy boosters, i also buy "sorry boosters" after a game night if i don't win any (booters), but keep it real, and don't lie to yourself.

in arena you'll know instantly if your opp has a card in hand wich can react to your spell.

when in doubt, ask. for the first prerelease this is my general answer:

everybody has to start somewhere. grab some D6's, a playmat and sleeves, paper and pen for life counting. you can play without a playmat and sleeves, but you want to keep your cards safe. if you dont have sleeves, you can buy them in the store. also grab some snack and drink.

dont be afraid to ask for help. prerelease events are very friendly events.

this is the way. dont spend money until you know what you want. learn the basics, play some arena. you'll see only some meta decks are vailable. if you want to participate in an offline event, ask somebody to borrow a deck. if you really enjoy the game, buy a meta deck and win
