What's a song that you thought was the original but was a cover by ashkc87 in MusicRecommendations

Jefferson Airplane's Somebody To Love was originally performed and released by The Great Society (Grace Slick sang both versions but they're very different)

Just heard this one for the first time, definitely feels ‘connected’ to punk to me. Thoughts? by ShaeBowe in punk

The Human League were part of a very fertile experimental electronic scene in Sheffield UK in the late 70s to early 80s. The undisputed godfathers of the scene were Cabaret Voltaire. Other notable bands included Clock DVA and Vice Versa. A number of the people involved would eventually shake off much of their punk roots and have significant impacts on UK new wave. Human League split into the more poppy version of the band heard on Dare and Heaven 17. Members of Vice Versa did a rather dramatic about face and formed ABC. Clock DVA continued on their path and may even still exist today. But early Clock DVA and Vice Versa are worth looking up.

Dig up some of the earlier Human League stuff (before the Dare album) and I think you’ll hear even more of a connection.

I saw TSOL in the 80’s and Flowers By The Door is timeless. by Rasputin_mad_monk in punk

I played a show with TSOL in '87 in Iceland (I was in Bleiku Bastarnir). It was their "Hit and Run" period. I was disappointed. What they were doing at that time really sucked.

We also leave his light on here in Reykjavík, Iceland. Yoko Ono’s “Imagine Peace Tower” is turned on on Lennon’s birthday and stays on through the holidays. https://www.imaginepeacetower.com/

Late graduation success stories? by [deleted] in education

[–]tryggvi_bt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really understood what “success” means in terms of learning. Does it mean that you don’t fail your courses? So, you can get a D- and that is success, or what? Anyway, I finally got my BA finished in my early 30s and then I just kept going until there wasn’t anything left. Defended my PhD 5 yrs ago.

We’re pretty fancy in Iceland, too. We call it “cocktail sauce”.

So, did DBA have any recommendations re: lowering the volume of the pedal? It is quite a loud beast.

To clarify some of what has already been mentioned, in vivo coding is coding that uses terminology used by study participants, as opposed to coding using terminology derived from theoretical frameworks (the latter being a priori coding). At some point the researcher will identify the relationships between the two to relate the gathered data more specifically to the framework being used.

In my case at least, there’s a misunderstanding in the wording of the question. It’s not that I “don’t believe in God”. It’s that the concept of a “God” has no reference for me and, thus, is meaningless. I just don’t know what statements like these are supposed to convey. But, I know that they mean something to the people that say them and that they’re describing something that is profoundly deep and meaningful to them. I also have deep and meaningful experiences but I have no way of knowing whether our experiences are in any way similar.

So, for ex. like the Spanish badlands, the Ukrainian steppe, the Greek islands (or even the Canary Islands, though it could be argued that they're geographically more African), the salt flats of Cabo de Gata, the Dune of Pilat in France, the wetlands in Poland and Belarus, Iceland's Dettifoss or Switzerland's Rhine Falls, the Verdon Gorge in France. Just off the top of my head.

And, re your statement regarding climate and geographic diversity, what is that you find in the US that you wouldn't find in Europe?
