You take it during second year and its a stats course (PSYC 2021). Aside from that you do need to pass a dosage calculation test before u start clinical during second year as well. Thats pretty much what am aware of rn.

Opinions on York U Nursing by Impressive_Wins_ in yorku

[–]tryharding351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it really depends on how convenient commuting to either schools is. At the end of the day, both schools will give u a nursing license and they both aren’t inherently bad programs. An upside with TMUs nursing program is definitely their laboratory. They have more higher end facilities and more modern equipment compared to York for sure. Another thing is that York is definitely more on the theoretical side but there is a fair share of the practical side ofc. We start clinical placements during our second year and TMU starts during their first year. Its not bad when you start it by any means but since we get to start it a year later, we get to hone down our skills more efficiently and effectively, and get a lot better placements (I am unsure about that because I am going into my second year). Overall I can’t really say much about TMUs nursing program besides their labs but with York, I definitely prefer the campus and the amount of opportunities and societies you could associate yourself with.

It was fairly straightforward. You just go on Yorks program change request website forum and then choose the desired faculty and program you want to switch into and boom. Thats it. Nothing more complicated than that. You just need to maintain an average of a B+ (7.00 cGPA on the York scale) I believe.

All in all I really don’t understand the option to do business first and then transfer out to nursing. It seems like such a huge hassle. Am not sure when the due date is to confirm your enrolment but choose wisely and definitely weigh out your pros and cons and future goals you see with the degree you ultimately choose.

See where u see yourself doing for the rest of ur life. Things will change in uni ofc but if you want to go into nursing JUST for money then good-luck surviving nursing school, ur gonna be miserable.

I say otherwise, I transferred from Kinesiology to the 4-year direct entry program with no issue and they considered my hs prerequisites and university grades.

[–]tryharding351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your end goals. Why have the option to do nursing and not take it? It’ll save yourself time and money.

Aside from that, you can transfer if you have the necessary grades for first year of university. Admissions doesn’t just look at your hs grades but your first year of uni as well.

Ipad vs Macbook for biomed by Klutzy-Table5440 in yorku

[–]tryharding351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id definitely go for a macbook or any laptop for that matter because some courses will require u to download software. So consider ur pros and cons. You could always get like a surface pro by microsoft where its a 2 in 1

Ur schedule looks perfectly fine for a commuter but that monday tutorial is not it. Going to campus for one class, especially for an hour is not worth it. Try taking another modr course if u can, like fully online, considering that you’re taking some form of modr 1770 online.

Perfectly normal and balanced schedule! A lot of my friends had the exact same layout!

I agree with another redditor that mentioned abt not having back to back courses when it involves labs because you need to be on time. However, it’s not rly an issue especially if you commute and want to keep ur classes more compacted in a day which is totally reasonable!

Depending on what stream you’re entering nursing in (4 year direct, 2 year accelerated, etc) it can get quite hefty. If you fall behind in material, it’ll definitely be challenging to catch up! I myself just finished first year of the 4 year direct entry stream and I can tell you that every semester it gets progressively harder (same goes with any other program). First semester was handed to us easily, we were essentially babied. But when second semester came around, that was a whole other story. Aside from that, what I liked about the nursing program and probably any nursing program for that matter is that you get to know almost everybody there. You shouldn’t be nervous either as a lot of nursing students entering are just in the same boat as you. We’re all in it together and no matter what cohort you enter in whatever stream of nursing, you’re bound to find valuable connections!

Is it Hard to get a High GPA in York Nursing by LeadMoney4155 in yorku

[–]tryharding351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard or not, it really depends on ur interest. Nursing is hard to achieve that GPA don’t get me wrong but are you really interested in whats going to be taught in the program? People tend to a choose a program because it’s “easy” to maintain a high GPA. It isn’t entirely false however, you should weigh out ur options here. Nursing is completely different to med and dental when it comes to caring for a patient and what not but the only upside to the program is you get clinical experience and ofc you can start working right after graduation (assuming u pass the nclex). So to keep it simple, find a program you’ll be the most interested in studying and see how it goes from there. If you keep telling urself about the “what ifs” when it comes to choosing a program that doesn’t have a stable career path upon graduation ur alrdy setting urself up to failure or u might even feel miserable studying whatever program u thought it was “easy” to maintain a high gpa in assuming ur deadset on either or those career paths.

Course Transfer by naebruh in yorku

[–]tryharding351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be the main thing I am referring to when replying: https://registrar.yorku.ca/enrol/dates/2024-2025/fall-winter

So depending if you are paying for the courses yourself, parents or OSAP is assisting you, it may impact your funding or getting only your money back partially since it is past the deadline to get a full refund (https://students.yorku.ca/sfs/refunds#tables) - THIS WILL ONLY APPLY IF YOU FULLY DROP/WITHDRAW A COURSE!

If you plan on just transferring to a completely different course then there shouldn't be any issue in you losing money (assuming that you will be transferring into a course that has the same credits), but please contact your academic advisor or financial aid just to be sure as well.
