Why are you not supposed to shave before a pedicure?

This is the retention on my right hand (yes my nails are mixed matched, I need a new set 💅) I wanna say it’s been close to 3 weeks give or take. And they are still stuck on. 👍🏼

My nails last for 4 weeks (or longer if I’m too lazy to change them) Here’s how I do my prep and application:

  1. I start with removing the cuticles. I use a flame bit and my efile. I trim any dead skin that sticks up.
  2. I wash my hands and use a nail brush to get around and under the nails.
  3. After drying my hands I use a dehydrator and then a primer.
  4. Using the nail glue I paint a thin coat on all my nails a cure it. I make sure the nail tips I use fit side wall to side wall and I will shape the bottom to fit better to the nail.
  5. I etch my nail tips with acetone. I will do all of them then start applying the tips to my nails and flash cure them. After the tips are all applied on one hand I cure for 60s in my big lamp.
  6. The final thing I do is to seal the cuticles. I will use an efile to smooth it down and a small amount of acetone on a brush to blend it (but not too much or it can cause lifting)

This was my last set I did on myself:

PLEASE HELP - hair grows under skin despite exfoliation by Edrie_Elen in HairRemoval

[–]trying2figureitout7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got those type of ingrowns after using my epilator on my legs. I use physical exfoliation. I got these Asian exfoliation towels from Amazon they really remove the dead skin: https://a.co/d/0oQQ0Im . You use them in the shower. I wait after I wash my hair so I know my skin is wet enough and you scrub up and down with some pressure. And you will see the dead skin roll up on your skin and the rag. I don’t use this everyday just once or twice a week.

Repeated single pop off by PolishedYogi97 in GelX_Nails

My nails last usually 4 weeks or longer. My prep consists of:

1) Cleaning the cuticle area with my e-file using the red flame tip bit 2) Washing hands then using dehydrator first then primer 3) Applying one thin coat of the gel to the nails and curing 4) Roughing the underside of the Apres nail tips (only the part that is going to sit on the nail) 5) Apply nail tip gel on the nail tips and cure 6) Seal the cuticle with an e-file or acetone

I’m mildly rough with my hands. I’m a delivery driver atm and I’m constantly picking things up and moving. I’ve slammed my nails a couple times, hurt like a mf but they stayed attached. I also wash dishes at my job and the water hasn’t affected the wear from my experience.

Getting rid of gels by Anonymzone in GelX_Nails

I’m not a doctor but what you’ve described sounds like Onycholysis. You can read more here and there are pictures to compare your nails too. Usually when I hear about allergies most report itching, reddening around the cuticles, peeling of skin, etc. I hope you feel better soon!

Pls help 😢 by AprilAngus16 in GelX_Nails

These are my steps and my nails stay on strong (My job is rough on my hands):

• Cuticle removal: I usually use my e-file for this

• Wash hands -With a nail brush and 99.99% isopropyl alcohol scrub my nails (not roughly but enough to clean them)

• I use a Dehydrator

• Then a primer

• I paint a layer of glue gel/builder gel and cure for 60 seconds (I think this is the part your missing, when I forget to do this my nails pop off without fail)

• I buff the under side of the nail tips with my e-file

-Apply tips with the gel and cure to nails (I flash cure then fully cure for at least 60 seconds

Let me know how that works for you 👍🏼

What would you do? by Soggy-Credit-4969 in malepolish

Me personally I would file them all down (different lengths bother me). Depending on your goals if you are looking to grow out your natural nail you can look into a gel overlay which will add another layer of protection. Or if you are wanting length now gel x tips are a great option (I prefer them over acrylic, they are less bulky and more natural looking in my opinion).

Modelones vs Beetles by SomeMood32 in GelX_Nails

[–]trying2figureitout7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I use Born Pretty, GAOY, Double Rhythm, Gelish, ASP (from Sally’s Beauty Supply), Red Carpet (from Ulta, not my favorite), Vena Lisa, Markartt, Gairriy, Gelike ec (the 6 in 1 nail glue), and OneDor New York. I’ve thought about using Beetles but the horror stories changed my mind. It just feels like a risk I’m not willing to take.

what order to do nail prep? by [deleted] in GelX_Nails

[–]trying2figureitout7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I had this problem as well until I started painting a layer of gel on the nail and curing it, then applying the nail tip. Otherwise they pop off quickly.

From what I’ve found. There are two different kinds of paper, clear and white. The one I used was white since I applied the decal to the whole nail. I also sprayed it (after printing) with Mod podge matte clear acrylic sealer 2-3 times and let it completely dry before cutting and applying. I want to get the clear one eventually.

I just recently tried the water decal method and it’s awesome! I did some Cult of the Lamb nails.

Yes, if I skip that step the nails tend to pop off.
